Rainee, IMJ, love the participation, but I'm going to leave the Gazette up and lock down for most of the day so it doesn't get buried. Then I promise to return things to general participation, which I actually appreciate.

The Lighter Side Hump Day Gazette

Had a minute with aik...
I am much, much better than anyone else on TOL.
...at what?

Had an idea in the How To Get New Subscribers thread...
Free ponies...at least the potential for one. I've been saying it around here for years. Really draw in the rural crowd.

And urban folks with very large apartments, of course. :plain:

And...
Read my posts and you will be reading the true word of God--not the "word" other people are interpreting.
Would that word be...humility?

Seriously though, you obviously aren't being, but I'm in.

Had a sober moment in the NFL thread after kmo's Chiefs dropped the ball (either)...
I think the important thing we should all take away from the weekend, other than my 11 12 wins against the spread, is:

:mock: kmo

I don't think that can really be emphasized enough. :plain:

Took time with a self professed Muslim who doesn't appear to have read the Quran...
Socialists seem to believe that successful people have a duty to support the less fortunate. Isn't this the same kind of person who would break into homes of the wealthy and rob them?
Do you believe you should help widows, children in need and people with disabilities that preclude them from earning a living wage?

If yes, do you have to constantly fight the urge to burgle?

I personally think that it's in societies best interest to criminalize this philosophy and to put these kinds of individuals in prison.
:plain: So you've either read Swift or you aren't very. I'll be curious as to which is in play and pulling for you.

So...
My soul is pure. It's other people who have the problems....
...pure what?

While in the college thread, kmo kept digging (either)...
...Today on Mike and Mike I heard that Auburn had it in the red zone 5 times, some of which were within 10 yards, and ended up with field goals. 5 times! If they could have punched it in a few of those times the result may have been different.
I'd go further than that and say that if they'd put more points on the board it would have completely changed the final score. :plain:

And said to patrick jane...
that makes sense. great sense. i'm going to try to do that more. that's the whole point really. thank you, i'm sarcastic but not now. i like you la. i see posts by you that mostly build others up. edification, correction and wisdom. sometimes i need to get back to the basics
You might find it helpful to begin by creating a mental list. :plain:

Before scratching my head over friend rex's...
Pretty much all of the Christmas music has been completely ruined for me by the Pavlovian conditioning that tells me that when I hear it, someone is about to try to sell me dishwasher, a TV, or some other junk. Don't get me wrong, I like Christmas (minus the Jesus stuff), but by the time I hear the first Christmas song at a mall or on TV, sometime in mid October, I just feel so jaded about the whole thing that I'm just ready for it to be over.
But...Christmas minus the "Jesus stuff" is pretty much people trying to sell you crap. :plain: ...so isn't jaded by and large where you start?

Tomorrow? Despicable him, Christmas songs, good and bad, and more Alabama... :)

Oh lookie!
If you really, really want me to lock the thread it's not a problem, but I'll ask the once, nicely, refrain from this sort of thing, please.

To everyone else:

The Weekend Gazette

Jibed with kmo on the collage game...
Univ of Alabama shuts down its football program!

No, not that one. Birmingham
Yeah. THE University of Alabama mostly just shuts down other football programs...and their fan base...like I have to tell you.

Enjoy it while you can. One of these years Alabama will have a fall and then I'll have my day. :plain:
Well then...that's almost as good as having something to realistically root for, isn't it. :plain: :)

Before the doctor piled on...
Lol. If Auburn actually had a defense to go with that offense, you wouldn't be here crowing about the tide.
And if Florida had either you'd have something else to talk about. ;)

While in the best/worst Christmas song thread...
We three kings is doctrinally wrong. By the time the wise men arrived...Furthermore...Singing along to these verses denotes poor discretion.
Whereas not singing along usually denotes poor memory and/or disposition...maybe ill fitting shorts.

And...
Go to Israel in December

There are shepherds everywhere and sheep everywhere.
They should put that in the tourism brochure.

Facts T heretic facts. That's why we sing.
You get choir credit for taking trig? :plain:

While, in defense of modern miracles, this happened...
Objection to what?

Focus from what?
At least I finally got you to admit you don't know what you're talking about. :)

Continued with kmo and a civil, hopefully interesting dialogue on faith in foundation...
Yes, God's thoughts and ways are higher than ours, but there has still been revelation. God isn't completely unknown. Religions are based on a revelation and understanding of God. Christianity is based on the bible being the revelation of God and his action in the world. One needs to be careful in how one approaches it.
Couldn't agree more, but in the end the Christian God proclaims His transcendence and the implications of that are important to us as we move, if imperfectly, toward the good.

Then intomischief was back...
Zoo who I think is actually t heretic
No, I only argue with myself offline. :) But given his degree of insight and gift for humor, I'll take the compliment.

He's probably going to neg rep you though. :chuckle:

I don't know...
NOTICE THAT TRUTH4YER...JUST SETS US UP TO WASTE OUR TIME...LIKE A TEENAGER GOING TO AN OLD FOLDS HOME.
Is that where the wrinkled live?
No, it's where linen goes to dye. :plain:

Tomorrow? Hot chocolate and foot rubs. That sounded a lot better in my head.

:singer: Race Report:

And out of the gate in a wide field it's Angel and Oatmeal neck and neck, thundering over the open stretch (6), with IMJ, anna, must and stripe three lengths back and gamely coming on for third (3) with a wide field of lathered horses hot on their heels.

December is already shaping up as a race to be remembered. :)

A Christmas thought...

Elsewhere a friend of mine wrote about being irritated by kids with parents not working getting a lot of presents for Christmas. She was concerned about some message being sent to them, an entitlement message...that it would become an expectation instead of something to be grateful for. She went on to talk about how hard she worked to provide for her kids.

I thought about it a while and this was my answer:

I don't think you're a Grinch. In fact, I know you possess a good heart, are the sort of person who wouldn't take a toy out of any child's hand, regardless of their parents situation...But I can't help thinking about the brother to the prodigal son and how he would have agreed with you and how his father didn't...then I think of the gift we're really celebrating from Christmas to Easter and our unmerited poverty of spirit that was its foundation.

Merry Christmas to you and yours.

Ended a peculiar conversation about amorous rejection...
Why? If a friend is going to fall out with you because you decline their advance then what sort of friendship was it anyway?
Probably not much of one - true.
Because if you sleep with any friend who's interested your facebook page would read like an orgy register...and who needs that (either)?

And the last notes of the Spectrox concert began...
...I believe I did test the God Hypothesis
I know you believe that, but in part that mistaken impression is why you're in your present difficulty, why you struggle with the notion of relation and find trust superfluous to salvation.

Bottom line is that the Bible isn’t worthy of my trust...
Bottom line, you just illustrated the problem for you, from beginning to end.

Then...
Now if the New Testament had clearly spelt that out [trust], and given examples of apostates doing that, that would be a different matter.
Setting aside the OT scripture offered on point, there's literally no logical way around trust as a foundational truth of Christianity. You must trust God to ask forgiveness and believe that He is and is capable of delivering you. So you will never find an apostate who can say, "I trust God" or someone among the faithful who should have cause to say, "I don't."

While in the Pagan thread...what, I thought it said "pecan"...
Is there a bar in this place or what?

:plain:
And if so how low is it... :plain: what?

And...
Bar humbug...etc...

:plain:
There are times when I barly understand you. :plain:

Indeed, I think I may even open one - 'The Virtual Beer Emporium' sounds rather crap so I'll think of a more catchy title for the place...
CGImbibe?

Had a word with al...
Theists however can't explain why the god they think of as an explanation for everything needs no explanation. :plain:
Sure we can. It's all about contingency and necessity.
I could perhaps explain the coefficient of variation, but it would be bovine scatterings nevertheless. :plain:
I could value anything and declare it a sum, but it's really sumthing else. :plain:

Ran into FS in the Best/Worst Christmas Song thread...
"I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas" ..
Sneaky rascal. Which list does that go on for you? :)

I'm busy at the moment listening to Sean Connery's Cheese Sandwich Christmas.

It begins: "All I want for Christmas is a cheese sandwich," said Charlie...who was a moron."

It helps if you read it in Sean's voice. :chew:
