Yes, me too.

God bless all of you

I remember helping four other adults hold down my two year old son while they inserted an IV line. My wife couldn't bear to watch.

This isn't going to be easy for me...

My grandson Kaiden...I would like to trade places with him. Not for long, just for a split second.

This past Saturday evening my wife and I attended a retirement party for a friend. It was being held at a rural home not far from where we live. My wife and I brought Kaiden with us as we were taking care of him for the day.

Kaiden is 17 mos. old and a very happy but rough little boy. He keeps us endlessly busy bouncing off walls and getting into whatever mischief he can. IOW normal little boy stuff.

We took him out of his car seat and he took off running up the rise toward the barn. I followed along behind as usual but I let him get too far in front of me. He suddenly stopped but I didn't know why immediately because his back was to me. When I got closer I saw he was face to face with a rooster. I know roosters can be dangerous so the alarm bells went off immediately in my head. I kept moving toward them watching the bird...it wasn't showing any signs of agitation and I didn't want to spook the bird into feeling threatened (which may spur an attack) so I calmly walked up to Kaidens side and was just starting leaning over to pick him up when the bird went at him. The rooster clawed his little face from the left side of his forehead across into his right eye. I snatched him up and kicked the bird away but it was too late...I was too late...too slow.
The ambulance brought him to Arnold Palmer Childrens Hospital in Orlando where he went into surgery almost immediately. Everyone there did an awesome job but alot of damage was done...his little eye had collapsed and was filled with blood. Besides damaging the cornea the roosters talon has damaged the retina. The surgeon was able to "reinflate" (for lack of a better term) and repair the eye physically. But we won't know until next week (When he goes into surgery again with a retina specialist) if he will ever be able to see out of it again.

Right now the big threat is infection. As I write this I'm listening to Kaiden scream while his mother, father and my wife hold him down to apply the three courses of anti-biotics which we have to apply directly to his eye...four times a day. I help hold him down when I have to but his daddy is here to do it at the moment. If infection sets in it's game-over...he will lose the eye.

He's such a tough little guy. Once the antibiotics are applied, the eye protector put back on, and he is let up; he just bounces right back. Stops crying...starts playing again.

I would give anything if that damned bird had gotten me instead...if I had been faster...if it was my eye in the balence and not his. I'd give anything.
Oh, man, Tom. I am so sorry to hear that. The little guy is in my prayers.

Prayers going up for you and your family Tom O.

To the op: yes, i would trade with my son, assuming he would be able to live out a full life, provided he would want to come to back here and have that, but if he wouldn't, then no.

If it were just for a day though i would like to have been the christian miss america contestant who openly disagreed with gay marriage and teed off that :flamer: perez hilton - it has to be totally awesome to stand up as publicly as that and risk what people risk these days for their honest beliefs and opinions - especially the very public figures who stand to lose much.

TomO,

With all sincerity, if I could give my old (imperfect but seeing) eyes in his place right this moment, I would! I really mean it!

Instead, all I can offer is my prayers for total healing.

Except that isn't what she did.

Well, she did tick off Perez Hilton, but that's only because he wasn't paying attention.

She stated that she was raised to believe marriage was between one man and one woman, but that she personally believed people should be allowed to marry whom they please. [paraphrase]

Thank you everyone...your prayers are appreciated...and needed.

TomO,
We have an aggressive rooster who is getting worse. He has attacked both my wife and me. You wouldn't think a chicken could be so powerful. Yours is a cautionary tale and makes me sad yet hopeful for grandson's speedy and complete recovery.

Do you have any updates on how he is doing?
