Given he doesn't actually think you're a prostitute I think that's what he did and it's in your court to lay it to rest.
If he doesn't use that language again there's no reason to doubt his regret, though I'd agree it would have been better for him to have said, "I apologize for using the word" instead of apologizing for offending.
I think the mod was referring to the lack of context, the difference between calling someone a prostitute and suggesting, if too strongly, a willingness to sell out a thing for the appearance of it, which is much of the objection you're running into.

And in that foolish declaration is the precise reason you have little reason to be upset about being called a whore for the republican party.
All that matters is that you feel justified and are willing to say it. That's how the other guy thinks. So stop complaining. You're as much a part of the problem as anyone.
I also voted against him. And I voted for mostly conservative candidates at home and nationally. And you voted for a man who also condones abortion, if in more limited circumstances. In fact, you likely have voted for more men who did that, between us.
Neither of our candidates (I didn't vote republican or democrat the second go round) actually made the law on point. Rather, your republican party, through Nixon and the justices they put in play that dominated the Roe Court, did that.
