the 15 years was always the plan
Was it? When God said He would "add" 15 years to Hezekiah's days, what was He adding to?
we are told to always pray 1Thes 5:17, which is what being told you're going to die inspired ,
to us the future is open even if God has exhaustive foreknowledge
So you are saying that even though the plan is already settled, and God knows everything we are going to do, we still have to ACT like God might change His mind? I'm not sure I understand the benefit of a theology that requires that you act like your theology is false.
talk about does not follow
God didn't lie , had Hezekiah not been told he was dying he would not have prayed and he would have died .
God told Hezekiah the thing that was NOT the plan in order for Hezekiah to achieve the thing that was the plan? Are you saying God had to lie to Hezekiah in order for the truth to happen? This seems uncharacteristic of God to me. We are told that God "cannot" lie:
Titus 1:2 KJV - In hope of eternal life, which
God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;
But as long as God can tell people something that is not true in order to get them to achieve what He wants them to achieve, why can't that apply with the passage in Revelation? What if God tells them that they won't repent, but He really wants them to repent, so He tells them they won't so that they actually will repent? This would be in keeping with your view of what happened in Hezekiah, right?
Compare:
First God told Hezekiah that he would die and not live:
Isaiah 38:1 KJV - In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came unto him, and said unto him,
Thus saith the LORD, Set thine house in order: for
thou shalt die, and not live.
Then God told Hezekiah He would not die, but would live an
additional 15 years:
Isaiah 38:5 KJV - Go, and say to Hezekiah,
Thus saith the LORD, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold,
I will add unto thy days fifteen years.
In Revelation 9, God tells them something bad will happen to them and they will not repent:
Revelation 9:20 KJV - And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk:
Revelation 9:21 KJV - Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts.
Eventually we will find out the rest of the story, where He only tells them that in order to get them to pray and repent, at which time He will tell them the real plan, that they will be with God in heaven forever, because they prayed and repented. Unfortunately, Rev 9 only gives us the first part of the story, whereas we know both parts of the story about Hezekiah.
