As has been shown here, some folks fast for other reasons than to "chasten" the vessel...a religiously oriented fast. Some do it for weight loss, and I have heard it can be used to identify allergy causing foods...a physically oriented fast.

Thanks for the info. Though I have fasted as a type 1 diabetic without any problems, (once), it sorta scares me. I guess the only way to test the theories regarding fasting for non-religious benefits is to just jump in...with food on standby. Thanks again.

Not necessarily. We don't know if everyone at Eph. knew what the OG's, (older converts), knew so this may have been info' for newbies...or men searching for the truth 2000 years later. On the other hand, if the OG's were not exhibiting Christ in their walks, it is a sign they didn't have faith...
