However both Peter and Paul spoke of the present things as well.

The acceptance is the same but the amount of knowledge each group had is different , and was different for quite a while before the Christian mission. That is not to say there are no 'atonement' themes in pagan cultures.
There is no NT indication that that goes forward or makes an exception, certainly not another Gospel. It is just benefit of the doubt.
The objective of the Christian mission was to get as many people informed that a complete new package was here. See how Paul sounds saying good bye to 3 years work in Little Asia in Acts 20. The whole counsel of God has been put out to the whole region.

So did Paul in Rom 2, but he didn't mean that people themselves could justify themselves, as we see in ch 3. He meant the righteousness of God would be provided in Christ, the LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS, as Jer 31 and I Cor 1 say. Enjoy.
