Trick or cheat: Woman caught snatching all the Halloween candy at one home

After Halloween candy disappeared from the front porch of a San Diego home, surveillance video caught the culprit -- an adult woman in a bunny costume.

The woman snatched roughly 50 full-size candy bars, cleaning out the home's supply, Fox 5 reports. The roommates who put out the candy said they could not identify her.

The roommates described the setup as a "social experiment." Nathan Brown told Fox 5, "We thought we'll leave some candy out... it'll be fun to see who takes what."

The roommates said they left out three boxes of candy bars next to a sign that read, "Help yourself but please be considerate." The candy was gone after just one hour, they said.

The surveillance video showed child after child politely taking one or a few candy bars at a time. Eventually, the woman in the bunny costume, accompanied by a child, dumped the rest of the candy in their containers and walked off.

The YouTube user who uploaded the video wrote, "Everyone was really considerate...until this upstanding mother came to save the day.”

Video of it happening that was done for a social experiment:

yep and teaching her kids thats ok.

It's a great post really. As funny as it seems, it has a saddening message, some people will take advantage of any opportunity where being decent is ignored.

have a good night now.

The sign said "help yourself" and she did.

Most people react by claiming she is a bad person for doing that.

Has anyone tried to state why what she did was wrong?

She didn't steal anything, she only took what was freely offered.

Both the woman taking the candy bars and the people offering the candy bars consented to her taking them.

It also said to be considerate, is it considerate to take everything and leave nothing for anyone else?

""Help yourself but please be considerate."

For those who dont know the definition of considerate:

con·sid·er·ate
kənˈsidərət/
adjective
adjective: considerate

careful not to cause inconvenience or hurt to others.

She did nothing to cause anyone any inconvenience or hurt.

Maybe you are thinking of something else?

It doesnt cause inconvenience for the host to need to put out more because of the greed of the woman?

It doesnt cause any hurt or inconvenience to the children who come after her to empty boxes?

She was clearly not considerate. She clearly did not follow the instructions.

Your post even ignored the last part of the sign when you objected.

Have you spilled a whole bowl into your own bucket or something at some point in time?

No, the host already put out all the candy bars he was going to put out, so there was no inconvenience to the host.

You mean the same inconvenience that would happen when the last candy bar is taken, no matter who took it?
No, there is no inconvenience that would not be there after the last candy bar was taken.

She was clearly not considerate. She clearly did not follow the instructions.
You are assuming that she was educated enough to know what the vague instruction to "be considerate" was supposed to mean.
The host was obviously at fault for not specifying that each person was to take only one candy bar.
The woman was not at fault for helping herself.

Your post even ignored the last part of the sign when you objected.
You defined what considerate meant.
I addressed the definition you provided.

Have you spilled a whole bowl into your own bucket or something at some point in time?
Why do you ask that instead of actually stating why you feel the woman did something wrong?

I already understand that you believe that the woman did something wrong, but you still haven't actually stated why you think what she did was wrong.

Maybe you think she is at fault for not following the vague instruction to "be considerate."

For all you know, the woman could have taken the candy bars to a homeless shelter, which would have been considerate, or she could have taken them all to spare someone (other than herself) from getting diabetes from eating too much sugar, which also would have been considerate.
