They don't even care if they make no sense.
I have to have a fence around my swimming pool or I'm getting a ticket.
But parts of our international border have nothing.
Because it's not about safety.
It's not about sovereignty.
It's not about liberty.
It's not about individual rights.
It's not about rule of law.
It's definitely not about humanitarianism.
Then what IS it about?
It's about the fact that there is no aspect of other people's lives they are neutral about. None. Because there is nothing they do not wish to be able to control, either by promoting and rewarding it, or by punishing and destroying it.
That is why there is such constant opposition on TOL over even measly matters -- the more self-righteously "tolerant" they profess to be, the less they'll tolerate disagreement. Over anything.
It is exactly as Orwell warned -- incremental attainment of absolute control over every aspect of the lives of others, including mere opinions, is the goal. They will settle for nothing less. By any means necessary.
EVERYTHING THEY DO IS BENT TOWARD THAT GOAL. THEIR EVERY WAKING MOMENT IS FOCUSED ON CONTROLLING EVERYONE AROUND THEM, EVEN (MAYBE ESPECIALLY) PEOPLE WHOSE FACES THEY'LL NEVER SEE.
THEY HATE LIFE IF THEY CANNOT BE IN ABSOLUTE CONTROL OF EVERY ASPECT OF IT, AND THEY HATE PEOPLE THEY CANNOT CONTROL
SO GOVERNMENTAL POWER IS THE PERFECT TOOL TO GET WHAT THEY WANT...HUGE, FACELESS, DE-INDIVIDUALIZED, WITHOUT PERSONALITY, A FORCE AND A WILL UNTO ITSELF AND, IN THE END, IMPOSSIBLE TO OPPOSE WITHOUT RESORTING EN MASSE TO THE FINAL RESORT.
The Left knows that. They're counting on it.
If we cannot accept that fact about the Left, we will never understand why the Left does what it does and so can never properly oppose the Left.
