ECT The 4 major Christian baptisms

First of all, when they were baptized with water they received a gift bestowed by the Holy Spirit. And that "gift" was the ability to speak in tongues:

Paul claimed that gift would cease. I wonder if it did. Maybe Paul was mistaken, is that what you think?

1 Corinthians 13:8 Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away.

Some posts on TOL prove knowledge has vanished away and people just make up their own knowledge independent of scripture, which seems to just confuse people.

I believe that the gift of speaking in tongues is no longer given by the Spirit.

I also believe that the reference to "knowledge" is in regard to another gift (1 Cor.12:8) that was given by the Spirit in earlier times. This gift is similiar to the gift of wisdom spoken of in the same verse.

Hi jamie and the GIFT of Knowledge is when Peter knew that Ananias and Sapphira when they lied as to what money they sold their possession , BUT Peter knew that they LIED , BEFORE they talked to Peter !!

There are 4 verbs tenses in 1 Cor 13:8 and 3 of those verbs are in the FUTURE TENSE , why is that ??

Because those gifts , Prophecies , Knowledge , Tongues will FAIL during there Life time , BUT WILL come back during the Great Tribulation of Jacobs Trouble !!

The words of Paul here make it plain that it is the One Spirit Who baptizes believers into the Body of Christ:

"For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body
, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit"
(1 Cor.12:13).

Where the Corinthians water baptized?

The NEWEST revelation does not include getting wet.

Sure it does, Jesus bought the church and instructed his apostles to baptize for the remission of sin. This was after his resurrection so his instruction is intrinsic to the NT.

You mean the TWELVE apostles that will judge the TWELVE tribes of ISRAEL?

Once again, you're not with God's CURRENT DISPENSATION. No wonder you're so confused.

Is that a yes or no?
Some were; some were not. Either way, it doesn't prove a thing.

That fact that you do not know about the MANY baptisms in the Old Covenant shows your severe lack of knowledge on the subject.

Heb 6:2 (AKJV/PCE)
(6:2) Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.

That's the new. Can you show where someone was baptized "in the name of Jesus" ANYTIME before the cross.

I agree, when they were water baptized they were added BY the Holy Spirit. Man doesn't add people to the church.

This verse states in no uncertain terms that "we are all baptized into one body" BY One Spirit.

And of course once the One Spirit baptizes a person to the Body of Christ they are added to that Church.

But you say that we are not baptized into the Body BY the Holy Spirit.

I see no evidence to support your claim they received tongues in the passage.

In order to find the truth let us look at the following passage where the same phrase "gift of the Holy Spirit" is used:

"While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message. The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on Gentiles. For they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God"
(Acts 10:44-46).

The Holy Spirit fell on Cornelius and his household and those who had accompanied Peter were astonished that "the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on Gentiles." How did they know that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on Cornelius and his household?

They knew that they had received the "gift Holy Spirit" because "they heard them speak with tongues." Let us look at these verses again:

"...the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on Gentiles. For they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God."

Here the word "for" is translated from the Greek word gar, and the meaning of that word as used here is "it addresses the Cause or gives the Reason of a preceding statement or opinion" (Thayer's Greek-English Lexicon).

The reason that those with Peter knew that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out was because they heard them speak with tongues. So we can understand that the "gift of the Holy Spirit" is the ability to speak in tongues.

Could you provide verses about baptism after the cross that support your understanding that it's purpose is the same?

The baptism before the Cross was a baptism of repentance for the remission of sins and the baptism after the Cross was the same:

"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit"
(Acts 2:38).
