Take Down the Bird Feeder!

No problem, but what I said was that there was a racist subtext in play. I'll go back and link this to the post where I speak to that, but the short version is that, historically, racists have used rhetoric that reduces minorities to the animalistic, especially blacks, both in the particular (monkey and ape) and in general (beastial). The narrative here uses one character and a group of animals to represent two different groups. The human is a giver, an altruist who finds himself plagued by animals who clutter and crap and peck. Comparing those on assistance to animals is historically in line with that racist rhetoric I noted. It's sold more softly, and the human is framed as someone desiring to improve the welfare of the animals he later regrets helping. The author then ties that into immigrants, though the initial net covers a wider grouping. The author sums his point by suggesting the solution here might be to "take down the bird feeder".

When you compare immigrants and people on assistance to ill behaved animals and use a human being to represent the put upon giver/altruist, a racial card is being played.

Except not all people on assistance are a racial minority. When i read the OP, all I saw was a reference to people on assistance. The fact that many writers focus on minorities or immigrants does not mean every writer does. If it has racial overtones, it exists solely in the mind of the reader unless there is evidence the writer intended it.

Corn flakes now come in a bilingual box;

I can see how that would be upsetting. You, a person speaking English, and living, I presume, somewhere in England, are forced to see another language? With your own eyes?

I have to ‘press one ‘ to hear my bank talk to me in English,

Oh, you poor, poor dear! Did you sprain your finger? Would you like some ice for it? How about some cocoa?

...and people waving flags other than ‘Old Glory’ are squawking and screaming in the streets, demanding more rights and free liberties.

Yeah, I hate that too.

I know. But the rhetoric aimed at shaming white poor is and always has been different.

You didn't read through to the end then. The author of this piece is focusing first on the general and then narrows it to the immigrant. And when you do that AND you use animals for the one group and generous humans for the other you play into an established, historic rhetorical approach that invites the understanding.

If it has racial overtones, it exists solely in the mind of the reader unless there is evidence the writer intended it.
Except if you have an understanding of political, rhetorical treatment of minorities by racist majorities and others you have that evidence.

Whereas if you just read the story without bringing in your baggage, no such issues arise.

And the wails of racism only serve to obscure the actual message of OP.

Now let’s see. Our government gives out free food, subsidized housing, free medical care and free education, and allows anyone born here to be an automatic citizen._ _____OP.

The author refers to a behavior of birds when they get something for nothing. It is very similar to the behavior of all people who have grown accustomed to receiving something for nothing to the point of being unble to function without it. The author is not calling these people animals but referring us in a very graphic way to a common human trait that is shared by at least some animals. The point isn't that these people are nothing but animals. We are all motivated by animalistic instincts. I'm not insulted to have it pointed out.

Why single out immigrants? They are the most aggregious example of this behavior and not because of their DNA. The reason they are the most aggregious example is the effect that government policy has had. Not only are illegal immigrants getting something for nothing, they are receiving free benefits merely for being here and/or having children born here. It is documented they receive more benefits than actual citizens who receive assistance.

They are overloading our medical and school systems and our penal systems.

This is the equivalent of being crapped on by birds in the OP. This includes the pandering in bank phone lines and cereal boxes. While this is not much of an inconvenience, it is patently unfair to all other minorities. Why should illegal Mexican immigrants be given preferential treatment over other minorities when all they did was have better success than others at getting here and avoiding expulsion?

This has nothing to do with being Mexican and everything to do with being the most aggregious example of the allegory in the OP.

Again, only a biased mind would see race in the OP.

No, only one familiar with the history of political rhetoric and who understands that both legal and illegal immigrants are overwhelmingly non-white and non-European.

Once again you focus on your accusations of racism and ignore the real meaning of OP.

"A racist is anyone winning an argument with a liberal."

Yeah, I lost interest in your approach a handful of posts ago. I'm comfortable with the argument and support I've offered, but you keep digging in there with this sort go get the messenger insight and stereotypical nonsense.

Just thought I'd do you the courtesy. Not putting you on ignore or anything, I'm just not interested in your methodology. It's too far afield and goes nowhere...unless you like circles.

So...I'll be unsubscribing the thread. Anyone who feels like a headache can talk to you and the kid about it.

There's your problem, you focus on "approach" and ignore substance. You think OP is racist and ignore its intended message.

You keep digging in.
I'm sure you'd feel a lot better if I didn't oppose your ideas. :idunno:

But targeting the messenger and stereotypical nonsense won't help you.

I guess you have never investigated the CAFR nor where that bank loan manifest from, those are the birds you should be concerned with not the dialectic victims of the problem reaction solution this pyramid scheme operates under, I guess you could start a small pox laced blankets campaign to take care of the native tongue you certainly don't spew out of that pie hole.

The current banking system has almost nothing to do with capitalism. In fact, it is a socialist/quasi-fascist form of banking. No bank should be allowed to lend money it doesn't have nor should you have to be a bank to lend money.

Further, when the Federal Reserve creates money out of thin air, it depreciates the value of the money that existed before but not immediately. The people who get that new money first get to spend it with the current purchasing power. It only loses that purchasing power as it finds its way into the economy. Since the U.S. Dollar is an international currency, this effect may not be felt in America right away. It depends on where the bulk of the money is flowing. But regardless of who gets the brunt of the drop in purchasing power, the Fed's creation of fiat currency has the effect of stealing wealth from those who earned it. It is fundamentally corrupt and ought not be allowed.

NONE of that has ANYTHING to do with the point being made in the opening post. If our country had a banking and monetary system that was 100% just, we'd still be creating problems by enabling people to be lazy by feeding those who will not work with food that someone else had to produce and which was paid for with money that was stolen from those who earned it.

First of all, I didn't write the opening post.

Secondly, I couldn't care less what language is printed on a particular product. What I care about is immigrants coming to this country LEGALLY and because they want to be members of this society rather than changing it into the one they left.

Oh, you poor, poor dear! Did you sprain your finger? Would you like some ice for it? How about some cocoa?
You're a fool.

It isn't about pressing buttons. It's about preserving the culture that made these people want to come here in the first place.

Yeah, I hate that too.

Here's an example of Paul specifically regulating welfare, who should receive it and under what circumstances....

I Timothy 5:3 Honor widows who are really widows. 4 But if any widow has children or grandchildren, let them first learn to show piety at home and to repay their parents; for this is good and acceptable before God. 5 Now she who is really a widow, and left alone, trusts in God and continues in supplications and prayers night and day. 6 But she who lives in pleasure is dead while she lives. 7 And these things command, that they may be blameless. 8 But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

That's right. Love and care for your family (Eph. 5:25–33). This isn't rocket science (Eccl 10:2, Jn 10:10).
