Do You Like Yourself?

I ask because I have spent a good amount of my time on this earth not liking myself. I was not aware that I did not like myself until I began to question my judgementalism.
I rarely received a compliment from my parents and they were hyper critical of any of my efforts. Trying to please and falling short set a pattern of internal negative thinking.
This is something on which I work to change.

What about you?

bybee, whats not to like about you?

Your just a human like the rest of us. Sometimes we are good, sometimes we are bad. Thank God for Jesus Christ to show us how to be better.

I have always liked myself. I do my best to reflect the love of Christ to everyone in my life. There are times when I fail, but I know I tried. No one lives up to their expectations, but we must try.

God Bless

Everyone has those feelings about themselves, so your never alone :) after all, this fallen world fantasizes about perfection when they can never achieve it as there in conflict with God. In the documentary 'America the Beautiful" a women tells the story of an African woman who told her, "Do you see that tree over there?" The woman said yes. "Does that tree think it's any less beautiful or important because it's not that other tree?" The answer is no :) our fallen nature (our flesh), the world, and Satan want us to compare ourselves to make is feel less than who we actually are. Because he knows that if we DID know the truth about ourselves, we would be FREE :)
Here's what Jesus says to those who are Gods Children from the book "Victory Over the Darkness" and "Bondage Breaker" by Neil T. Anderson:
I AM ACCEPTED:
I am Gods child John 1:12

As a disciple, I am a friend of Jesus Christ ~ John 15:15

I have been justified ~ Romans 5:1

I am united with the Lord, and I am one with Him in spirit ~ 1 Corin. 6:17

I have been bought with a price, and I belong to God ~ 1 Corin. 6:19-20

I am a member of Christ's body ~ 1 Corin. 12:27

I have been chosen by God and adopted as His child ~ Ephesians 1:3-8

I have been redeemed and forgiven of all my sins ~ Colossians 1:13-14

I am complete in Christ ~ Colossians 2:9-10

I have direct access to the throne of grace through Jesus Christ ~ Hebrews 4:14-16

I AM SECURE:

I am free from condemnation ~ Romans 8:1-2

I am assured that God works for my good in all circumstances ~ Romans 8:28

I am free from any condemnation brought against me, and I cannot be separated from the love of God ~ Romans 8:31-39

I have been established, anointed, and sealed by God ~ 2 Corin. 1:21-22

I am hidden with Christ in God ~ Colossians 3:1-4

I am confident that God will complete the good work He started in me ~ Philippians 1:6

I am a citizen of Heaven ~ Philippians 3:20

I have not been given the spirit of fear but of power, love, and a sound mind ~ 2 Timothy 1:7

I am born of God, and the evil one cannot touch me ~ 1 John 5:18

I AM SIGNIFICANT:

I am the branch of Jesus Christ, the true vine, and a channel of His life ~ John 15:5

I feel that at this point I have lived about five different 'lifetimes', and I'm expecting one or two more before it's all over. And I think I was a different person in each one of them.

I never disliked myself, I don't believe. But on the other hand, I have spend the majority of those lifetimes in various degrees of self-destructive dysfunction, resentment, grandiosity, and delusion. Needless to say, my grasp of reality was neither stable nor accurate much of the time. :nono:

But now days I'm sober, and happy, and surprisingly functional and effective when I want to be. I don't really think about my attitude toward myself, much because I am what I am and I have long since learned to appreciate that for it's own sake.

I like myself most of the time, and of the times when I don't, some of them are because I question how much time I spend away from home working.

I like ya too!
And one of these days I hope you and I can sit down in some TEXAS honkytonk, have a drink, and solve all the world's problems.
Maybe do a little fishing afterwards.

If you still are where you used to be, I'm back in that area as well. I'm sure we could find somewhere to meet up and chat. Maybe Allen... once I'm home for a good stretch!

There are certain things I have worked on and I like myself for achieving those things, there are other areas that I still need to work on

But we both know my opinion isn't the one that matters. In the final result, when your time on this earth is done there'll be one voice to recon with and answer to...and no, it isn't Obama's or even Chrys', though he'll likely try to squeeze in a question or two.
