For anyone (you know who you are) who believes the gift of apostle is still in force today, five questions:

1. Why do you believe that? Cite the appropriate Scripture.

2. How will one know he has been given the gift of apostleship? Cite the appropriate Scripture.

3. What makes an apostle an apostle? What is an apostle's specific purpose and function for the Body of Christ today? Put simply, what does today's apostle do? Cite the appropriate Scripture.

4. At some point Satan usually tries to counterfeit whatever God does. What should we look for to accurately test and discern a false apostle from a real one? Cite the appropriate Scripture.

5. Do you personally know a verifiable, no fooling, God-gifted apostle? If so, how do you know they're legit? Cite the appropriate Scripture.

Some people believe that an apostle is one sent out by Jesus Christ Himself to preach the Gospel. Paul included himself in that group because of his encounter with Christ on the road to Damascus. In that respect there are no apostles living among us today.

What are the "gifts of an apostle"?

Persons like Steven the martyr had miracles done by God worked through him but no one ever called him an apostle.

IMO at least a part of being an apostle is being a teacher and a guardian of the truth given evidence through being followed with signs and wonders that are God's sign of approval on a ministry

Then there is the history of building new churches done by the only true apostles to date albeit Paul alluded to a ministry in the future that his was a prophecy of.

Some men claimed to be apostles, but were not.

(Rev 2:2) I know your deeds, your hard work and your perseverance. I know that you cannot tolerate wicked people, that you have tested those who claim to be apostles but are not, and have found them false.

The term apostle is (as I'm sure you know) a broad term. In its broadest sense it means one who is sent. In that sense every true believer is an apostle. However, there are only twelve apostles remembered for eternity on the foundations of the eternal city. Also the one true sign of an apostle is to have seen and to have been commissioned by the risen Christ.

I've been meaning to ask the Apostle of Faith, Frederick KC Price.

He is actually sound on a lot of things, but, that differ, that he confuses as one and the same. Likewise with Joyce Meyer.

Take that out (and their extremes) and you have a pretty good study from those two. Can't say that about many.

On the rare occasion, you can tune in to Creflo Dollar Bill and he will sound like a MAD wacko...temporarily.

Hi and in Eph 4:11 , the Holy Spirirt has written , And He GAVE , indeed the Apostles , and the Prophets , and the Evangelists and the Pastors and Teachers .

The Greek word " GAVE / DIDOMI " is in the Aorist Tense , Active Voice and in the Indicative Mood !!

#1 , The Aorist Tense or the past tense in English and this happens when we are saved !!

#2 , The Active Voice means the Subject ( God ) is doing the action of giving the gift !!

#3 , The Indicative Mood , means it is a FACT !!

Hi and the job of Apostles in the OT gave a message to Israel , COME BACK and worship God !!

The Apostles of today have multiple things to preach !!

#1 Make all see the Dispensation of the MYSTERY !

#2, See that we are a new Creation !

#3 , That we are Christ's Body !

Just to name a few things !!

I do not know any apostles today

But why accept the gift of Pastor as valid today? or Evangelist? or Teacher?

This is what is so skew whiff about cessationists, they recognise for example word of wisdom or word of knowledge. They recognise that some have the ability to discern spirits....these are all gifts.

Not true of all. I am 100% Cessasionist and know of many who hold to this same 100% (or least claim they do).

No, its just a failure to hold to and walk in the truth of 2 Timothy 3:16-17, in light of 2 Timothy 2:15.

i don't think that gift is active. saints, pastors, teachers, etc. but not apostles. i think that gift was for the disciples chosen to BE Apostles of Christ Jesusin the early church, if there's some now i'd like to hear them speak. obvoisly we have messengers and advocates for God
