Fauci's estimate for efficacy was reasonably accurate for the original strain. He acknowledged that the duration of efficacy remained to be solidified. He hoped that some resistance for life was a possibility, thought at least a year was realistic, but we found 6 months was the more accurate window. The vaccines did reasonably well with Delta. With Omicron they are very ineffective at preventing infection but at least that reduce the severity of symptoms to a good degree.

These public health officials are dealing with a moving target. They know the chances of inadequacy, but do not emphasize them when they are trying to get 80% of people on board. Unfortunately, the approach is to share less with stupid people, because they will probably distort the picture. Sharing less can also drum up paranoia. Fauci has a hard job.

The original approach was the wisest - herd immunity.

The second wisest would have been to develop a traditional vaccine with whole killed virus.

In both cases you are/would have been protected against the original and any variants.

Millions more die by the virus in that scenario.

Even expedited that would be another 2 years.

Better protection against variants but not absolute protection by any means.

This just isn't true. Contrary to your assertion, in reality many more died of our collective reaction to the virus than the virus.

The only thing you got right was that a vaccine that worked would have taken so long to make it would not have been a factor by this time.

But you should learn to listen. The numbers are out there. Cuomo could have protected the old folks homes, but instead he infected them as thoroughly as he could to make the crisis as bad as he could. This pattern was followed by other governing officials and health officials didn't stop it. So not protecting the vulnerable made excess deaths higher than had we done nothing but the normal flu mitigation actions. Why do you think health officials are trying to help you?

But here is as even bigger crime. The excess deaths in people younger than 65, about a quarter of excess deaths, came from causes other than COVID. Do you realize what that means?

In 2021 we got the vaccines. Did excess deaths in people under 65 slow down? Initial numbers looks like they increased!

And beyond that, the spread of COVID in 2020 was as complete with no differences of note regardless of mitigation factors employed like masks, lockdowns or social distancing.

So, no, not only would there have been less deaths had we nothing beyond what we normally do, but the vaccines created an environment that made things worse in 2021.

That would be your case to make. It is not obvious. Deaths during covid interventions may or may not be attributable to those interventions. Careful comparisons and the ability to look at potential confounding variables would be needed. Neither is your strong suit.

In hindsight we see better decisions could have been made. Those infected individuals would have had in impact in hospitals instead of the nursing homes. That would likely have been less devastating, but challenging none-the-less.

We need you to step up and analyze the data. The political divide itself apart from covid might be a cause of greater deaths. People in cults do not have good mental health outcomes. Qanon and superstition is in an upswing at the same time the deaths have risen.

Blaming the cure is an easy way out. I choose to focus on the disease of covid, and the disaffection of white folks who need to believe they are superior and the stress they feel when they are just equal as the true causes of malaise.
