Yes; but only to other vegetarians . . . . and they should not be allowed to produce offspring until they prove that they are actually sensible human beings, which is unlikely.

I knew a vegetarian who married a swede, and later he realized she came from Belgium....

I never know anymore.
I just got done reading a thread about molestation and Jurassic Park.
And did you assume that thread represented the thoughts and views of TOL ownership?

If so.... why on earth would you even visit this website?

A better topic might be...Why are meat-eaters so annoyed by vegetarians?

I'm not annoyed by vegetarians. I just get annoyed at the hypocritical "animal rights" activists that think that a monkey should be allowed to vote but thinks it's okay for a woman to kill her unborn baby.

The two shouldn't be conflated. There's no reason why supporting the humane treatment of animals and the rights of an unborn baby are somehow tied. Plenty of meat eaters have no problem with the latter so it's a bit of a misleading connection IMO...

Well, I'm not one of them. Personally, I think that anyone who thinks it's all right to kill an unborn baby is wrong.

That said, I have no problem with the humane treatment of animals. But, I think that some people take that too far, especially when they start saying that no animals should be raised for meat and that humans shouldn't take milk from dairy animals or eggs from chickens. I can (and have) raise animals humanely for the time I have them until it's time to have them butchered. My butcher says that he'll only butcher an animal if it's brought to him alive so that he knows it's killed as humanely as possible. I thought he was being silly, at first. But, then, I heard about some of the processing plants in the US. I have to say that I'm glad my butcher does it this way.

And PETA actually writing a letter to Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield (Ben & Jerry's) asking them, in all seriousness, to start using human breast milk in their ice cream instead of cow's milk.

September 23, 2008

Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, Cofounders

Ben & Jerry's Homemade Inc.

Dear Mr. Cohen and Mr. Greenfield,

On behalf of PETA and our more than 2 million members and supporters, I'd like to bring your attention to an innovative new idea from Switzerland that would bring a unique twist to Ben and Jerry's.

Storchen restaurant is set to unveil a menu that includes soups, stews, and sauces made with at least 75 percent breast milk procured from human donors who are paid in exchange for their milk. If Ben and Jerry's replaced the cow's milk in its ice cream with breast milk, your customers-and cows-would reap the benefits.

Using cow's milk for your ice cream is a hazard to your customer's health. Dairy products have been linked to juvenile diabetes, allergies, constipation, obesity, and prostate and ovarian cancer. The late Dr. Benjamin Spock, America's leading authority on child care, spoke out against feeding cow's milk to children, saying it may play a role in anemia, allergies, and juvenile diabetes and in the long term, will set kids up for obesity and heart disease-America's number one cause of death.

Animals will also benefit from the switch to breast milk. Like all mammals, cows only produce milk during and after pregnancy, so to be able to constantly milk them, cows are forcefully impregnated every nine months. After several years of living in filthy conditions and being forced to produce 10 times more milk than they would naturally, their exhausted bodies are turned into hamburgers or ground up for soup.

And of course, the veal industry could not survive without the dairy industry. Because male calves can't produce milk, dairy farmers take them from their mothers immediately after birth and sell them to veal farms, where they endure 14 to17 weeks of torment chained inside a crate so small that they can't even turn around.

The breast is best! Won't you give cows and their babies a break and our health a boost by switching from cow's milk to breast milk in Ben and Jerry's ice cream? Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Tracy Reiman

Executive Vice President

There is just no categorizing that level of idiocy. :nono:

Fair enough indeed. I just took issue with the connection to those who value animal rights as it really doesn't make a good argument in itself.

That said, I have no problem with the humane treatment of animals. And again, fair enough. I'm not a vegetarian but I support the rights of animals to be treat humanely and without any cruelty whether bred for consumption or otherwise. There's no excuse for it whatsoever. One of my best friends turned 'veggie' years ago after witnessing the culling in an abbatoir, and is also staunchly anti abortion as well....
