It's illegal to build a Christian church in Mecca. In fact it wasn't that long ago that the first "Christian" church was allowed to be built in all of Saudi Arabia.

I was refering to the 9-11 church that got destroyed.
For the record I'm for rebuilding the church to.
And the Mosque people are still not responsible for the actions of the Saudis

F? and what does that have to do with the price of tea in China?
"Knight" made a "Freudian" slip - but I think most people can join the dots and realize how hypocritical it is to have allowed representatives of the "sex" industry to remain near "Ground Zero" for years BUT dismiss the "mosque" as "a form of heartlessness that shocks me to the core."

As for Knight's argument that its "illegal to build a Christian church in Mecca .....," this is an opportunity for America to show once and for all that it has a legal system superior to the Moslem world - not by words but action.

Members of that Mosque were first responders.
I read of one that was an EMT who perished.
Are we as a country going to tell his mother that the place her son died is off limits to her?

It is still no reason to build a mosque. This would show a lack of our own values, as most in the US do not attend a mosque. What we need to do is put up the new buildings as a sign of US power and because this is needed.

Most of the first responders DO NOT want this Mosque being built in that location.
So what?

I have been reading where many Muslims are starting to speak out against the idea.
Because they fear a backlash, which they shouldn't have to because this is America and we have freedom of religion.
Maybe it's just the tolerance crowd who wants this thing so bad.
I consider myself a part of the first ammendment crowd.

You are a moron.

The hijacked planes weren't piloted by a merry band of pornographers.

If you can't understand the sensitivity between 911 and Islam there is simply no hope for you. You're too stupid to participate in this conversation.

Of course not. She can go the memorial site just like anyone else can. She doesn't need a massive high-rise Mosque to remember her son.

She also doesn't need people keeping her from building a house of worship on land she owns because her and her dead son worship the same God as some crazies.

No doubt. People like TH and Kmo think they are be loving, compassionate, tolerant, bigger than us Neanderthal's who still believe in tact and respect. :chuckle: They could care less about the feelings and emotions of the victims families. It's a form of heartlessness that shocks me to the core.

Complete and utter stupidity.

The only adjective I can think of for people like that defend this Mosque location is.... "jerks". Well, actually I can think of another adjective but I no longer use the "F" word.

The intent of the builders is so obvious it is hard to explain why people deny it. The Cordoba Mosque is named after a city in Spain where conquering Moors replaced a church with a mosque. It will be built where a building was destroyed by the landing gear of an attacking terrorist plane. The intent is obvious.

To make matters worse. St Nicholas Church destroyed in the attack is yet to be restored.

http://deathby1000papercuts.com/201...as-church-still-not-rebuilt-nine-years-later/

So, New York big-shots can fast track a Muslim mosque near the site of the attacks on New York and the destruction of the WTC and the little Greek Orthodox church that was crushed when the South Tower fell but in all this time they can’t seem to find the wherewithal to allow this little house of worship that served not only the Greek community but welcomed anyone who felt the need to find a little peace and solitude amidst the hustle and bustle of the city.

More about the delays and red tape plague the rebuilding of St. Nicholas.

From Church’s Troubles Typify Ground Zero Delays:

The story of the tiny St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church and its efforts to rebuild after the collapse of the World Trade Center is one of well-intentioned promises that led to endless negotiations, design disputes, delays and mounting costs.

In addition, Charles V. Bagli, the reporter on the NY Times story above, points out: “The church has for several years wanted to build the new St. Nicholas a block northeast of its original home on Cedar Street. But doing so would require trading land with the Port Authority, and an agreement has proven elusive.”

Disgusting.

People speak of bridge building but what could serve bridge building more than doing the right thing and being respectful to this national tragedy that transcends politics? The polls I've read indicate that the majority of the people believe as I do. The elite frown on them and me blaming it on lack of education.

Amazing how quickly the word "education" devolves into "indoctrination."

I was going to post . . .

As long as they don't build it close to our place in here in Houston.

. . . So I won't.

(But that would really a long way from ground zero, wouldn't it.)

Coprolalia

Coprolalia is involuntary swearing or the involuntary utterance of obscene words or socially inappropriate and derogatory remarks. Coprolalia comes from the Greek κόπρος (kopros) meaning "feces" and λαλία (lalia) from lalein, "to talk"....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tourette_syndrome
Facts and Tips about Coprolalia

- Coprolalia is characterized a complex vocal tic and is undoubtedly the most striking, socially distressing and dramatic symptoms of tourette syndrome.
- Coprolalia as well a typical symptom of other psychiatric disorders, for example Lesch-Nyhan syndrome.
- Risk factor of this disorder such as disrupt communication, speech, or something that a patient is involved.
- People with Tourette syndrome do not typically pest out of irritation or displeasure but out of uncontrollable compulsion.
- Coprolalia is lead to some condition like schizophrenia, a severe psychiatric disorder of thought in which the sufferer loses touch with reality, withdraws from social activity and exhibits bizarre behavior.
- For treating this disorder used medication such as surprisingly, botox injections result in more generalized relief.

It is still no reason to build a mosque.
The reason they are building a new Mosque is because they have outgrown their storefront Mosque 5 blocks away from ground zero were they ave been for 30 years.

This would show a lack of our own values, as most in the US do not attend a mosque
We don't value freedom of religion anymore?

What we need to do is put up the new buildings as a sign of US power and because this is needed.
So do it!
We are not talking about ground zero here.
We are talking about the old Burlington Coat Factory two blocks away.
The guy already bought the building in 2006 and nobody gave a flip.
Until they heard "Mosque"

You claimed one of the families members wanted the Mosque (I didn't responded "so what?), instead I made the counter claim that most first responders DON'T want the Mosque built. Therefore, your desire for the one mother of a first responder is at very least neutralized.

Because they fear a backlash, which they shouldn't have to because this is America and we have freedom of religion.
They still have their freedom of religion. They can build elsewhere. If Muslims wanted to remove the Washington monument and replace it with a Mosque we wouldn't allow it (at least I hope not) based on the fact that the Washington monument is a national park and not zoned for building Mosque's. That fact wouldn't remove their freedom of religion. Instead... they would have to build elsewhere.

In this case... they have the right to build, but they should choose to build elsewhere out of respect and sensitivity towards 911. Again, that doesn't remove their right to be a Muslim, it just means they should choose to build their building in another location.

I consider myself a part of the first ammendment crowd.
Is the first amendment limitless? No. Furthermore... who's claiming they are doing something illegal by building there?? Nobody is!!! Nobody is saying they don't have a constitutional right to build the building.

Instead what people are saying is...
out of respect to the situation and the very special set of circumstances surrounding 911 the Muslims should voluntarily choose to build their high-rise Islamic cultural center/Mosque in a another location.

Similarly... insensitive Christian churches shouldn't plant 15 trees commemorating the Columbine massacre.

That's one of the big differences between the Middle East and the US; one that I'm thankful for. I think you are as well.

I don't see any value in looking towards the Middle East to influence the freedoms we as a country have (or don't have).

Freedom of religion doesn't mean you can or should build your place of worship anywhere you want.

There are tons of places where you CANNOT build a church. That doesn't remove my freedom of religion.

But more importantly... the point you keep missing is nobody is saying they don't have the RIGHT to build there. Instead... it's that they should choose not to build there out of respect for the sensitivity of the area and what it means to this nation.

No doubt. People like TH and Kmo think they are be loving, compassionate, tolerant, bigger than us Neanderthal's who still believe in tact and respect.
By this you appear to mean only respect for your opinion and those who agree, since you evidence none at all for some who haven't attacked you in any part, except in argument and position. As for tact...I assume that sensitivity is reserved similarly. In which case, what man doesn't possess both as virtuously as you set them out in approach heretofore and hereafter?

As for the case before us...In point of fact, it has nothing, nothing to do with an emotional reaction on my part...so far as I can tell that province is purely and vehemently integral to the contrary position and many of the people holding it. For me it's a simple matter of justice. These people have done nothing. Nothing to you or to me or to this country. A sliver of fanatical idiots have, as have fanatical idiots from almost every faith in one century or another. Islam is no more the enemy here than Christianity, however practiced by John Hagee and like minded people, is the enemy of the 9th ward of New Orleans.

For anyone to suggest that the presence of a mosque should be viewed as an insult to the families of the victims of 911, which included Muslims among their number, is astonishing. It plays to the lowest common denominator of ethnocentric inclination and suggests the justification of a larger paranoia that is, to be charitable, uninformed.

:chuckle: They could care less about the feelings and emotions of the victims families.
Since my brother, but for an accident of scheduling, would have been in the towers that day...let me leave it at "You're mistaken."

It's a form of heartlessness that shocks me to the core.
That's only because you aren't seeing me or my argument or you wouldn't begin to use this sort of warrantless personal invective.

You're mistaken.

Complete and utter stupidity.
Among my many faults, a want of considered opinion will never be entertained by anyone in control of their emotions or in possession of my argument.

The only adjective I can think of for people like that defend this Mosque location is.... "jerks".
Once you lower the level of discourse to the purely and unreaonably personal, why not?

Well, actually I can think of another adjective but I no longer use the "F" word.
You just did.

And, again, in understanding and in conduct here, you're mistaken. :e4e:

Perhaps "Knight" can enlighten us as to the legal grounds that exist in The Constitution or The Bill of Rights that would support any level of government from denying American Moslems (as opposed to other religions) from building a "mosque" anywhere they wish (where zoning rules permit)?

There is a bigger issue Islam would see it as a national weakness, just as they would see even larger buildings as a sign of strength. Politics is a practical profession, it is about people, not persons.
