True. That´s why he can still repent of being a fornicator, siring a child outside of marriage instead of being openly proud of it.

...and here I was thinking you'd actually be halfway entertaining. Instead, you're just unpleasant.

So the two of you have never seen the Bible endorse the right to free exchange, and planning ahead for your future off the labors of your own back? And you have never seen the Bible say people should care for their own, and if a believer does not, is worse than an unbeliever?

Is that really your position?

immo, freedom of speech isn't inherently capitalistic, nor is "caring for their own" :idunno:

I agree with SoJ that socialism isn't a bad idea, it just isn't practical, especially in a secular society. I imagine a fully Christian society would be a very soft form of capitalism in the case that it is capitalisitic.

What I find utterly amusing (and at the same time, terribly sad) is that the societies that have attempted to implement the theory have either actively or passively rejected the idea of God and the inherent dignity of mankind therein implied. They are literally putting a cart before the horse, except there is no horse and the cart doesn't have any wheels.

I've also read a verse in which Christ tells believers to sell all that they have and give to the poor, and other verses in which the Christian community sold everything and shared what they had in common.

To be honest, I don't think that God is as political as a lot of right-wing Evangelicals make him out to be.

Very well said, I completely agree.

Something about me...

I want everybody to be saved, including granite and that homo pervert66.

Saved? Don't you mean misguided? I'm not the one here that believes in talking snakes and magic trees.

You are the one that needs saving, from yourself and that crazy cult you are part of. You would really be a better person for it.

Moving on, I actually find really flamboyantly gay people to be very annoying. More annoying than Nick M even, unless Nick really is flamboyantly gay and acting like a bigoted jerk to cover it up.

You don't have to be a Christian to know that there is a Supreme Goodness away from whom we've been cast, and to whom we must teleologically orient ourselves. Was not this the teaching of Plotinus?

What Nick doesn't realize is that anyone from the outside looking in would never for a second want a drop of what he has. If that's what being a Christian means, why would anyone be interested?

Yeah me too. I actually just find flamboyant people to be very annoying, they just usually happen to be gay :idunno:.

It's sad that this should be any secret, but I usually keep such things to myself to avoid so-called 'liberals' who would start shouting "homophobe!" at the top of their lungs :kookoo:

Opinion that isn't shocking to adults in the real world, but probably is to several people on TOL:
I hold the ability to disagree agreeably as a sign of higher maturity.

Opinion that would probably shock most people:
I do not believe God is limited to the pages of a single book. I believe He is alive, and can use anyone or anything to speak to us and/or work His will in our lives.
I do not believe God is limited to the names given Him in a single book.
Our "scriptures" do not contain any records of divine revelation in northern Europe, Asia, or Africa (aside from the Ethopian Phillip baptised), but we cannot assume He did not reveal Himself to peoples of those regions, by whatever names, and still claim to worship a living God.

If He is really willing that none should perish, then He is not limited to one book or one language or one name or one interpretation.

Because of that belief, I also believe that all spiritual belief systems point to the same deity.
Interpretations of that deity vary because different people value different personal qualities, and we (that is, people of different belief systems) fight over the qualities we prioritize, not over who has the "real" picture of God.

I believe the reality of God is not limited to any dogma, doctrine, cliche, catchphrase, tract, or any other written or spoken word.
I believe fully acknowledging (ie, not just saying in passing) that we can never understand the fullness of God is a step towards greater understanding of ourselves and of God's will.

Aww, my opinions didn't make anyone mad.

Well, I am of the opinion that it is quite silly to call pants, "a pair of pants" when there is only one pant.... er.... one pants.... er ... half a pair....er....

I liked Epicurius better.

I can't find a reason.
