The Devil The Deceiver

We need to undersrtand that the Devil does not come in his own name, the Devil does not say "I am Satan the Devil follow me", no, he says "I am Jesus flollow me",
then the Devil teaches people all the lies that people believe. The trick is to know the defferance between the real Jesus and the Devil, one can know this if one knows
the truth which is very hard to know.

What did Vincent of Lerins teach about how we can know the truth, when interpreting the Scriptures for ourselves?

DuckDuckGo DuckAssist:
“ Vincent of Lerins taught that to know the truth when interpreting Scriptures, one should follow the principles of universality, antiquity, and consent, meaning that beliefs should be held by the whole Church, have historical roots, and be agreed upon by the majority of Church Fathers. He emphasized that while Scripture is complete and sufficient, its depth can lead to various interpretations, so the Church's tradition is also essential for understanding. ”

That doesn’t sound right to me. If that was true, then the Catholic Church would have some sound doctrine, and I didn’t see much when I was there.

I don’t believe satan is stupid enough to say he is God, and he prefers to keep people distracted with the world and the flesh.

Men (false prophets) can claim to be His mouthpiece and claim to speak for Him, for instance, so people should be wary, for sure.

What did Vincent of Lerins teach about common characteristics of heretics and their heresies?

DuckDuckGo DuckAssist:
“ Vincent of Lérins taught that heretics often misuse scripture to support their new ideas, which can lead to various interpretations that deviate from orthodox teachings. He emphasized the importance of adhering to the faith that has been believed universally by the Church throughout history to avoid falling into heresy. ”

I guess that first demands a church be named. Catholic, Mormon, Jehovah Witness, Pentecostal? The Bible and the Holy Spirit should do the trick.

When Vincent of Lerins was alive and kicking there wasn't any doubt.

Besides heretics there was just One Church then, so there wasn't any doubt.

1And certain men came down from Judea and taught the brethren, “Unless you are circumcised according to the custom of Moses, you cannot be saved.” 2 Therefore, when Paul and Barnabas had no small dissension and dispute with them, they determined that Paul and Barnabas and certain others of them should go up to Jerusalem, to the apostles and elders, about this question.

There were 2 churches. It was a big fight then too. Peter said this. This is his conclusion. They (Jews) shall be saved (future) as the gentiles already are.

11 But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved in the same manner as they.”

Paul talks about some of the issues in his letter.

7 But on the contrary, when they saw that the gospel for the uncircumcised had been committed to me, as the gospel for the circumcised was to Peter

OF course he rebukes Peter. He withstood "The Pope" to his face because he was to be blamed.

And the devil appears as an angel of light.

A ridiculous video that I've seen before. The Church would [have] ground him up just like they did all the other heretics. Ah the good ol days.

Missing the trees for the forest. The Council settled the dispute, as is obv to anybody, it's the plainest meanest of the text, in context or otherwise. Dispute. Council. Resolution. That pattern continues in the Church too, there's always a dispute at the heart of it, whether it's Arians, or Nestorians or whoever, if the dispute is significant, the Church convokes a Council and settles the dispute, let the chips fall where they may. A lot of bishops were basically black balled unless they recanted of their Arianism, and that's the way the very first Church Council in Jerusalem concluded as well, there was no more doubt about things, the Church endorsed Paul's own words, "There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus." Paul goes a step further ofc as you know in invoking the promises made to Israel immediately after saying what he said, "And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise."

11 But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved in the same manner as they.”

It is why bishops all through history [have] always recognized their right to challenge the pope to his face, it is this very passage. As with the Jerusalem Council, the Church has used what the Scripture says to guide her path.

And the devil appears as an angel of light.

He can, but he'll always be tempting you into something to sow discord and unhappiness. He loves discord and unhappiness.

It doesn't have to make sense to you. That's not part of the Christian life, to only do what makes sense to you, you have to submit to the authorities put over you, they are literally overseers of the Church. They are bishops. And what they say is to believe the Bible, and the Apostles. And the Apostles are the ones who made the bishops, and Jesus is the One Who made the pope. He gave the keys to the kingdom to His Apostles, He gave them the throne of David and the seat of Moses, the power to bind and loose, and the keys to His eternal kingdom. They belong to the papacy, and the papacy belongs to the bishops, and the bishops belong to Jesus. And ofc we lay faithful are also priests, we are not ministerial priests but we are priests, all of us, so we are all Jesus's possessions, as He is our high priest, in the order of Melchizedek, who ministered with bread and wine.

Ah, so making sense is not part of the Christian life?
The only authority over the believer is the Bible, and the Lord Jesus Christ via the Holy Spirit. If you’re trusting in men to tell you the truth, you’ll continue to be confused, and maybe even lost.
