If the Catholic church were the "true church" they'd be preaching the "Grace Gospel" that was preached by the Apostle Paul. After all, Paul received the Gospel for today from the ascended Christ Himself.

Indeed. And Paul preached the necessity of doing good works as well.
How can you twist this?
"[God] will render to each person according to his
deeds: to those who by perseverance in
doing good, seek for glory and honor and immortality, eternal life....Glory and honor and peace to everyone who
does good, to the Jew first and also to the Greek." (Romans 2:6,7,10, NASB)
"For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may be recompensed for his
deeds in the body, according to what he has
done, whether good or bad." (2 Corinthians 5:10)
"So then, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence,
work out your salvation with fear and trembling." (Philippians 2:12)
"Faithful is the saying, and concerning these things I desire you to make firm assertions constantly, in order that those who have believed God may keep their minds on
maintaining fine works. These things are fine and beneficial to men." (Titus 3:8)
"Let us therefore
do our utmost to enter into [God's] rest, for fear anyone should fall in the same pattern of disobedience." (Hebrews 4:11)
"You have need of endurance, in order that, after
you have done the will of God, you may receive the fulfillment of the promise." (Hebrews 10:36)
