And not once have I been paid.
Let me count: 9 posts, at $5 each, comes to $45.
Do you want to send that to me by PayPal, or Money Order?
(Sorry - no checks.)

I recounted.
There are 10, but I will say that with 9 posts you get 1 free.

Look how many times Beanie posted in this thread using his free TOL access. :noway:

What do you have against just charging people for access?
Simply charge everyone.
Say, pay and post, and don't and have no access.
What's the problem with that solution?

(Technically, we are up to $50, but because I have to keep restating the point, I will let it slide.)

What, exactly, do I stand to gain by being a "subscriber"? Nothing of substance. Hence, no incentive.

In that case, I suggest that you go on strike until Knight gives you money for posting here.

Why don't you suggest that Knight ban all access to nonsubscribers?
Wouldn't that be more cost efficient?

Well, Knight did give me such a paltry raise this year, compared to last year's per-word rate. Perhaps a strike is the right thing to do... ;)

Though the Christmas ham and the new clubhouse were pretty thoughtful... :chuckle:

Who would they have to argue with?

Not really. Some of them are worth the read.

Actually I was given a 15% raise.
Unfortunately, 15% of 0 is still 0, but it's the thought that counts.

If nonsubscriber posts are worth the read, isn't that enough?

The other option is that they have to pay, and choose not to, and stop posting.

So, that's the decision.
Some people will post here, and only do so if it's free.
Some already pay.
Some will consider paying.
Some people will choose not to pay, and no longer post.

Those are your options.
I'm not sure where the problem lies.

To me, it's like watching Just Bobby Brown - like watching a train wreck happen slowly, that is so bizarre that you can't turn away.

"I am happy, you creep! I have the love of Jesus in my heart, so go to hell! Go to hell and die! I am going to wash in your blood in heaven and rejoice when you suffer in hell!!!"

Next week, on Just Bobby....

I didnt read all the posts, just jumped in after reading BillyBob's original.

To be fair, if it bothered Knight and cost him too much to allow the free loaders, he could make different rules. I'm a capitalist, I'm betting Knight is, this is his game, he can do what makes sense to him.

That said, my opinion is that there is nothing else even close to as neat as this place for thelology topics, and it is not asking much to chip in 3.00 dollars or so a month. I feel I have got way more out of this than I put in by subscribing. Like the oatmeal guy says, it's the right thing to do. :)

Perhaps you're right.
So, why not make the site a subscriber site only, like many sites on the net?

Do you have a yahoo account?
Do you pay for it, or do you have the free account?
If not, do you send them money, because it's the right thing to do?

Self sufficiency.

Weird hearing all the conservatives asking for handouts....

The "free sample" is a good start to the problem.

I often listen to Music Match Radio.
It's free for 1 hour.
It's not bad.
I could pay to have unlimited Music Match Radio, but they benefit from me by listening, liking the music, and buying it at the store. It's like regular radio - it's free, and you don't have to pay a thing, nor are shamed into it. Channel 2, MPR, etc., I donate to because I like what they have to offer. It shows all sides of all issues, is intelligent, and something that I want to maintain on the airwaves.

But MusicMatch? Well, it's Radio, and I can log on to live365 and listen to anything anywhere anytime for free. I can log on to Windows Media Player and listen for free.
If I want special services I can pay. But I don't want them, so I don't.

So, you could make TOL only postable for 1 hour per day.
You could make it subscriber only.
Live365 has listening capacity. If you subscribe, you can get in any station, but it caps for non-subscribers, and you have to wait for someone to leave.

Just ideas. Hope it helps.

Nobody is asking for a handout, Beanie, we are just wondering why you don't pull your own weight. If anyone is getting handouts it's YOU GUYS!
