That will come as quite the news flash to a lot of Christians.

When you guys figure this out, let us know.

Many Christians ignore as much as possible of the Book as they think they can. That just makes them "stupid" in my eyes.

We have to die of something.
And is that because Adam sinned, and so now we have to die?

Don't pathogens tend to destroy those with a compromised immune system? Like kill the least fit?
I guess that's not bad. Your god likes humans with a robust immune system and feels the need to destroy those who don't.

I am not one of those who blame Adam.

Let's take the most common diseases like cold, flu, measles, chicken pox, whooping cough etc. In all these cases God calls it an "issue" when the sick leaks fluids. And He commanded quarantine and hygiene. But we ignore this and go to work/school sick.

Here is what God still commands...
[Being "unclean" meant being under quarantine and to avoid close contact]

Lev 15
15 And the Lord spake unto Moses and to Aaron, saying,

2 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When any man hath a running issue out of his flesh, because of his issue he is unclean.

3 And this shall be his uncleanness in his issue: whether his flesh run with his issue, or his flesh be stopped from his issue, it is his uncleanness.

4 Every bed, whereon he lieth that hath the issue, is unclean: and every thing, whereon he sitteth, shall be unclean.

5 And whosoever toucheth his bed shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even.

6 And he that sitteth on any thing whereon he sat that hath the issue shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even.

7 And he that toucheth the flesh of him that hath the issue shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even.

8 And if he that hath the issue spit upon him that is clean; then he shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even.

9 And what saddle soever he rideth upon that hath the issue shall be unclean.

10 And whosoever toucheth any thing that was under him shall be unclean until the even: and he that beareth any of those things shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even.

11 And whomsoever he toucheth that hath the issue, and hath not rinsed his hands in water, he shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even.

12 And the vessel of earth, that he toucheth which hath the issue, shall be broken: and every vessel of wood shall be rinsed in water.

13 And when he that hath an issue is cleansed of his issue; then he shall number to himself seven days for his cleansing, and wash his clothes, and bathe his flesh in running water, and shall be clean.

So pi=3 then.

(1Kings 7:23)

Are we not scraping the bottom of the barrel for things to be offended at?

But nice one, I had not seen this supposed "inaccuracy" before.
I cannot remember any scripture containing fractions or decimals. So maybe its a rounding error.

Right. What an opportunity missed. Your god could have explained the mechanism for all this quite easily, giving humans the power to apply it to any situation of infection by microscopic organism, possibly hastening the development of microscopy, antibiotics and modern medicine, and also making every atheist have serious concerns for their doubts about imaginary sky friends.

But that didn't happen. What you are reading above is human observation and conclusion: rudimentary science. Of course nothing would have felt important or compulsory without the "Lord spake unto Moses..." bit at the top.

If you read the handwashing laws they are useful some of the time and pointless the rest of the time.

Interesting aside: the modern consensus of scholarship is that Moses is not an historical figure. So we have a god, for which there is no unambiguous evidence, passing on laws to a figure for which there is no unambiguous evidence, and to his older brother.

Do you think that is the only example?!

Try Leviticus 11:13, 19 (or Deuteronomy 14:11, 18).

According to this reliable document, bats are birds.

If pathogens are God's means of punishing us and keeping our population under control, aren't we subverting God's will by developing antibiotics, vaccines, and other treatments?

The word for "fowl/birds" is Heb "oph" = flying creatures including insects, winged creatures and apparently bats.

What's the problem?

Pathogens are like cliffs, fire and deep water. We learn to work around them and with them because God blessed us with brains.

That god must be really mad that we have pretty much eliminated smallpox and the Guinea worm.

So God deliberately designed ebola as a way of punishing humans who violate one of the dietary laws, but also gave humans intelligence so they could "work around" his ebola creation?

This just makes more and more sense all the time!
