America just keeps getting dumber. What is it with adding slang to the dictionary, just because uneducated people talk that way?:nono::doh:

Anyway...I've made my decision, how do you like it?

"A" goes before all words that begin with consonants.
a cat
a dog
a purple onion
a buffalo
a big apple

with one exception: Use an before unsounded h. The h in hamburger is sounded.

an honorable peace
an honest error

"An" goes before all words that begin with vowels:
an apricot
an egg
an Indian
an orbit
an uprising

with two exceptions: When u makes the same sound as the y in you, or o makes the same sound as w in won, then a is used.

a union
a united front
a unicorn
a used napkin
a U.S. ship
a one-legged man

Okay, I was wrong. I thought the first one sounded better, but I wasn't sure. Like I said, grammar is not my area of expertise.

You mean there is actually something that you're not an expert in?

The first one is right... in the United States. But in Britain the second one is right because we sound those kinds of "h" sounds and they don't. But that's my point, they invented the language, and #2 was right until we changed it for ourselves. So when people like to be grammar nazis, they should also decide which period of the language they want to espouse as being correct. Otherwise you're just saying, "that's not right because that's not how I talk."

Okay, I didn't think I would participate in this, but I changed my avatar, and I thought why not? So I'm going to "dress up" as Luthien Tinuviel.

Pfft, I don't need one :p... yet. Maybe I'll get one in the future... 'Til then, I'll just keep dancing to an unheard pipe in the woods, with stars in my hair, and glimmering rainment. ;)

Ya know, it's interesting how similar romantic descriptions of elves in the woods are to people trippin on shrooms.

Hmm... I never thought of that...
