Which is why we should cut defense spending, right?

Absolutely not...protection of the country & the citizens thereof IS a tenet of the US constitution... Government run health care IS NOT. I understand that you lazy socialist types desire the government to take care of you from cradle to grave on the backs of the productive citizenry but, those of us that work very hard to pay a mortgage, raise a family, and yes, buy healthcare for our families do not feel we have to support you too. Healthcare is a commodity that is bought & sold, not a right which you or others can demand the personal property of others to fund. Yes, decent healthcare is very expensive now given your messiah Obama destroyed the healthcare market & sent the prices of it out of reach of most but again, you have no right under the constitution to demand your fellow citizens carry your burden however, the same constitution allows the right to demand that the government protect this nation from all enemies foreign & domestic because that is a constitutional mandate.

You know what else is a tenet of the US constitution?

Provision for the general welfare of the citizenry.

At any rate, is taxation theft or not? Is the government inefficient and bad at everything it does or not?

You can't have it both ways.

Healthcare is a commodity that is bought & sold

Thankfully, the vast majority of people in the country disagree with you, and with respect to the people who think like you, coronachan likely will be ending this kind of thinking very soon.

Yes, decent healthcare is very expensive now given your messiah Obama destroyed the healthcare market

What is it with you right wingers? When have you ever seen me praising Obama or the ACA?

The ACA was a right wing republican healthcare proposal dreamed up by the heritage foundation. I'm not a fan of the ACA. You understand that Obamacare is basically just Romneycare, right?

sent the prices of it out of reach of most but again

No, that's not true. The ACA actually reigned in the cost of healthcare costs. But you wouldn't know that, since you couldn't tell me even a single thing that's actually in the ACA.

you have no right under the constitution to demand your fellow citizens carry your burden

Congress shall provide for the general welfare.

It's literally right there in the constitution. It's how things like medicare and medicaid pass constitutional muster.

Hey trad, I know you've been gone for a year

Keep this up and you'll be gone again

You were the one complaining about "expensive" fat people and immigrants.

Which is why we can't provide healthcare to everyone.

We should just let THOSE people get sick and die, according to you.

But you're unwilling to talk about literally the most expensive demographic?

And frankly, that is the irony, isn't it?

Medicare only covers 80% of costs. Seniors would benefit massively from medicare for all, since under medicare for all, there would be no copayments. Furthermore, out of pocket expenses for prescription drugs would be capped at $200 pear year. And it would include eyeglasses, hearing aids, dental work and long term/nursing home care.

This would massively benefit seniors, who are the sickest and most expensive demographic when it comes to healthcare.

But seniors are massively against the idea.

Because "fat people and immigrants" might get help too, apparently.

Sure, boomers, cut off your noses to spite your face.

Let's see how that works out for you.

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has repeatedly stated that healthcare is a basic human right, saying in 2013 that, “Coverage should be truly universal and should not be denied to those in need because of their condition, age, where they come from or when they arrive here. Providing affordable and accessible health care that clearly reflects these fundamental principles is a public good and moral imperative.”

When we live in a world with unlimited resources, we can make this fairy tale come true. Until then, we have to live in the real world.

Given that last graphic, why would anybody think that the Canadian model would work in the US?

Your last graphic compares minority populations of Canada with the USA. Are you trying to say that we can't have universal health care because we have too many black and brown people here?

EVERY OTHER DEVELOPED COUNTRY ON EARTH HAS UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE, PAYS HALF OF WHAT WE DO PER CAPITA AND HAS BETTER HEALTH OUTCOMES.

He keeps throwing Catholic bishops in my face thinking that somehow it will make my positions look bad, but he is too stupid to see the wiggle room and ambiguities that the bishops always put in their writings, and he is also too stupid to see that we already have much of what they say we should have.

1) As for Healthcare being a "right," yes, we all have the right to have it, just as we all have the right to have food and water. But we do not all get "free" food and water and we do not have a right to "free" healthcare. That's User Name's first error, and it is also Sanders' error every time the idiot calls it a "right".

2) "Providing affordable and accessible health care that clearly reflects these fundamental principles is a public good and moral imperative.” Healthcare is already accessible - there is an emergency clinic in every town that you can walk right into. As for being affordable, the "imperative" is to make sure that everyone has a job so they can get healthcare. Donald Trump currently has America at full employment, and the unemployed can get free healthcare through local programs.

You see User Name, if you just shut up and think before you post, you would not make such a total idiot out of yourself.

And what they say we should have that we don't have, we can just "wiggle" out of that because it is "ambiguous," right? Problem solved!

So what you're saying here is that we can afford Medicare for All since we practically have it already. We just need the will to do it. Clearly, we have the ability.

They've made the fairy tale come true in every other industrialized country in the world, why not here?

It is quite telling that #OkDoser would point to racial minorities and the obese as reasons why we can't have universal health care in this country, but neglect to point to his own demographic group as a reason--that being senior citizens.

Doser is transparently looking out for his own best interests to the exclusion of everyone else.

In this forum, liberals have been reported and sanctioned for far less - such verbal abuse reflects far more on the individual responsible for the post than the intended target!

As for the topic under discussion, American's should be asking themselves as to how many years are they willing to take off the lifespans of themselves and their families for the dubious privilege of retaining the current healthcare system?

According to the CIA Factbook, a branch of the government, the lifespan of the average American ranks 45th in the world (tied with "The Turks ans Caicos" Islands} - life expectancy at birth is widely considered a measure of overall quality of life in a nation and a reflection of its healthcare system!
