Climate McCarthyism

A White House official asks tech companies to settle normative questions surrounding climate change.

President Biden has deputized White House climate-change advisor Gina McCarthy to snuff out reckless talk on global warming. McCarthy, speaking at a virtual event hosted June 9 by Axios, said it is time for social media companies to crack down on climate “disinformation” online.

But however wrong, damaging, and mendacious climate-change alarmists like New York magazine columnist David Wallace-Wells and Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez may be, they deserve, like anyone else, the freedom to say their piece. Though such figures have certainly misled Americans with their doomsday predictions, their right to expression ought not to be infringed. McCarthy has stepped beyond her mandate by overzealously seeking to keep climate debate within approved guardrails.

I jest, of course.

It is not the exaggerations from Ocasio-Cortez or Wallace-Wells that find themselves in the crosshairs of the White House. Biden’s climate attack dog is hounding good-faith challenges to the administration’s policy recommendations and skeptical arguments about the viability of a renewables-only energy policy.

Global warming cultists have given us skyrocketing gas prices and food shortages.

Fierce local battles over power lines are a bottleneck for clean energy

KEY POINTS
  • The existing system of transmission lines is insufficient for the large-scale deployment of clean energy — like wind, solar, hydroelectric — that the country needs to meet its decarbonization goals.
  • The most productive geographical regions for wind and solar are generally far away from urban centers where the energy is needed
  • Local opposition to power lines, exemplified by a bitter fight in Maine over an extension to carry hydroelectric power to Massachusetts, are a big barrier.
A section of the NECEC corridor in Johnson Mountain Township is covered with straw on Tuesday, November 30, 2021. Crews put down the straw for erosion control.

A section of the NECEC corridor in Johnson Mountain Township is covered with straw on Tuesday, November 30, 2021. Crews put down the straw for erosion control.

For the past six years, energy companies and Maine residents have been in a fierce stand-off over the construction of a 53-mile power line extension that would deliver 1,200 megawatts of renewable hydroelectric power from Canada to Massachusetts, which is enough to power approximately 1.2 million homes.

Note that in Key Points they refer to the two least pragmatic types of clean energy production, solar and wind, while the main story is about a hydroelectric generating project.

A people’s revolt against eco-tyranny

From the Netherlands to Sri Lanka, people have had enough of the elite’s green hysteria.
A people’s revolt against eco-tyranny

If police were opening fire on protesters in a European nation, we would have heard about it, right? If there was a mass uprising of working people in a European Union country, taking to the streets in their thousands to cause disruption to roads, airports and parliament itself, it would be getting a lot of media coverage in the UK, wouldn’t it? The radical left would surely say something, too, given its claims to support ordinary people against The System. Cops shooting at working men and women whose only crime is that they pounded the streets to demand fairness and justice? There would be solidarity demos in the UK, for sure.

Well, all of this is happening, right now, in a nation that’s just an hour’s flight from Britain, and the media coverage here is notable by its absence. As for the left in Britain and elsewhere in Europe – there’s just silence.

The president sounds reckless.

He sounds like an alarmist, and an extremist, how hard he is pushing the irresponsible Democratic climate ideology (which for some inexplicable reason isn't just straight-up pro-nuke).

Yep, as I've pointed out earlier... Nuclear is the safest, cleanest, greenest and most cost effective energy there is. There must be some hidden agenda as to why the "greenies" oppose it.
