Clarence Page: Who’s afraid of critical race theory? Those who don’t know what it is

After Jewish lawmaker’s impassioned speech, Wyoming’s conservative legislature rejects critical race theory ban

It seemed a slam dunk: The popular conservative cause of banning “critical race theory” in schools, being taken up for a vote in one of the country’s most lopsidedly conservative legislatures.
Then a Democrat, one of just seven in the 60-member Wyoming legislature, stood up Thursday and said he could not support the bill because he was Jewish.
“In this bill, page 9, line 19 states, ‘The teaching of history must be neutral, without judgment,'” state Rep. Andy Schwartz said during debate. “Now, how can that be possible? If I were a Native American, I doubt I could accept the neutral, judgment-free approach about the relocation, the decimation of the Indigenous population. If I were a Black American, I doubt I could accept a neutral, judgment-free approach on the enslavement of millions of Americans.
“But I’m Jewish, and I cannot accept a neutral judgment-free approach on the murder of 6 million Jews in World War Two.”
Schwartz, whose Teton County district includes the city of Jackson, said that, to understand the depth of depraved actions, one must be discomfited by them.
“Going to page 8, lines 19 and 20, it says ‘no one should feel discomfort or distress,'” he said. “But in learning about the Holocaust, I have suffered a lifetime of discomfort and distress, and it’s essential that as students learn about this dark time in our history, they to feel discomfort in distress.”
If the Jewish advocate would like for history to be taught in honesty and entirely then let him advocate for the lessons to tell of historical Christian and republican opposition to slavery, racism, and hatred of Jews and Native Americans.

Correct and agreed. It's fundamentally illiberal to teach history in an imaginary 'moral vacuum'. No such state exists. Wicked is wicked. Slavery was wickedness (and by the way, slavery fundamentally conflicts with America's own founding concept----'liberty' coming from the Latin word that literally means FREED SLAVE), the aggressors in WWII were wicked, the crucifixion of Jesus was wicked. And because it would be illiberal to teach (especially children) such things in a made up, ethical emptiness, it would also be wickedness itself and immoral to do it, because liberalism is a moral philosophy----that we all believe in as Americans.

Having an 'opinion' on slavery and the Holocaust is not allowed. You must confess it is evil. That's American.

"Make sure students understand what others have been through"

Which others get priority?

My Puritan ancestors who suffered religious oppression in 15th century England?

The hundreds of thousands of Tutsi's slaughtered in the Rwandan massacre?

The hundreds of thousands of Armenians slaughtered by the Turks?

The four million Ukrainians starved to death by Stalin?

The 50 million Chinese killed by Mao?

The 4000 children under the age of five who die of starvation in India every single day?

The million Uighers imprisoned today in China?

The 3.2 million children under the age of 5 who die each year in sub-Saharan Africa, mostly due to malnutrition?

No, of course @annabenedetti doesn't want ME to teach HER children about race. The lessons that I would teach would be much too uncomfortable for her.

How is it that so many American blacks and democrats support Chinese tyrants in spite of their major violations of human rights and open practice of brutal slavery?

You need a gun for protection from CRT?
You may be wise to get more than one gun for protection against the lawlessness by illegal aliens, drug addicts, murderers, perverts, thieves, arsonists, carjackers, and other barbarians being unleashed on our nation by the Marxist leftist fascist tyrants.

State school officials have banned books in the past that many state citizens found offensive,m including sexually explicit books, white racist books, black racist books, anti-American books, books supporting terrorism, books belittling cops, and so forth, but democrats are fighting back to keep those books on the shelves.

Shortly after Texas state Rep. Matt Krause called for the state’s school libraries to review a list of 850 books for possible removal, four librarians formed “#FReadom Fighters” to resist what they call “a war on books.”

“We became this little freedom-fighting team,” said Carolyn Foote, a former school librarian in an Austin suburb who is now a library consultant. “We just wanted the voices of librarians and students and authors to be heard.”

Backup gun + Backup mags > Backup gun > Backup mags > No backup gun & no backup mags

Note there's always a 'Gun #1' in the above scenarios.
