There was no work yet because Adam and Eve had not yet sinned.
Right...you miss SO MUCH...of course there was work...Adam was to be fruitfull and multiply...fill the earth...and subdue it...have dominion over the fish and birds and animals...he was to name the animals...tend and keep the garden...is why he even got a help mate...help what? lay about and rest every day like you do? stuck in your every day is Holy heresy? NO of course not...
And just like with the New Covenant that first FULL day for man was a Sabbath...when Yah rested blessed sanctified and made Holy the seventh day...
And yes...Sabbath BEFORE SIN...and yes before ADAM even worked there was a Sabbath...do you really think Yah needed rest and refreshment?
Do you really think Yah needed six days to create it all? Or maybe He was setting up a pattern for us? A cadence for us to live by? 3 days of NO SUN and when on the fourth day the Sun went DOWN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE WEEK...a foreshadowing of what?
Or maybe it Sabbath is the Grace that He gave us His REST even BEFORE WE NEEDED IT?
What if we never sinned...what would that look like to you? EVERY DAY IS SANCTIFIED AND HOLY?
Of course NOT...we would be doing the same six day work and rest with Yah as He made for us...HalleluYah
duh...that WHOSOEVER believes...but some like with the Sabbath reject Him completely...never look back...
some also like with the Sabbath make changes to Him and His teaching before they can accept Him...
some also like with the Sabbath even claim He did it all I don’t need to do ANY of it is fulfilled...
and finally there are some late comers in history who like with the Sabbath claim He was just for Jews and NOT for them or something...I mean they are really MAD...
even Satan believes He is the Son of Yah and saves...but obey Him His ways? “AWWW HELL NO...NOT FOR ME!!” I guess the wicked never rest...or is it like you they always rest and never work?

A Sabbath-Rest for the People of God
oh good you DO read Hebrews...chapter 11 yet?
Chapter 4 continues this letter to the Hebrews which is a RETELLING of their history...chapter 3 was about Moses and One superior now...and of Israels rebellion hardening of their hearts...NOT ENTERING THE PROMISED LAND...you know because of unbelief...you know LACK OF FAITH which of course leads to well idolatry...and stuff...
So Paul repeats this lesson here in chapter 4
1Therefore, since the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us be careful that none of you be found to have fallen short of it. 2
Indeed the SPIRITUAL PROMISED LAND REMAINS...you know...what Paul wrote about...the GOOD THINGS STILL TO COME...which the shadows ARE pointing to still...
For we also have had the good news proclaimed to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because they did not share the faith

3Now we who have believed enter that rest, just as God has said,
“So I declared on oath in my anger,
‘They shall never enter my rest.’ ”
yup. Psalms 95:11 in Hebrew a resting place...not a person...or nap
but all about FAILING to enter Canaan because of LACK OF FAITH or UNBELIEF or HARDENING OF HEARTS...you know making up NEW WAYS to worship cuz HIS WAYS weren’t doing it for you...a rebellion of idolatry like your “EVERY DAY IS HOLY not just the 7th”

And yet his works have been finished since the creation of the world. 4For somewhere he has spoken about the seventh day in these words: “On the seventh day God rested from all his works.” 5And again in the passage above he says, “They shall never enter my rest.”

that was Psalms 95:7 about Joshua demanding allegiance
8For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken later about another day.
9There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; 10for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works, just as God did from his. 11Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will perish by following their example of disobedience.
so a SABBATISMOS remains for His people which is BETTER TRANSLATED a SABBATH KEEPING remains...
so that ANYONE not just Jews enters Yah’s rest they also rest from their works...JUST AS YAH DID>>>ONE DAY the SEVENTH DAY...so rest like Yah rested so should you enter Yah’s rest...that last day of the week rest...so be faithful to enter that PROMISED PERPETUAL rest so no one perishes for disobedience...like Israel did...
They didnt enter for a reason...disobedience...stemming from a LACK OF FAITH
NOTHING THERE ABOUT ENTERING JESUS THE NEW SEVENTH DAY REST

There were Jews who did not enter God's rest, Jesus Christ. That means they still locked the gates on the Sabbath, and no one can get out and save themselves from what was coming.
