Well, you'll see coast from San Diego until Dana Point, about 60 miles or so north of here I'd guess. Then the 5 turns inland and it's sprawling LA metropolis until you go over the hills, make a run through the desert and then when you hit the central valley it's farmland all the way to Sacramento.
That's why you need to head over to the PCH/101 for the really spectacular coastline, or inland for the national parks and such. I hope you make it back here again some day.
Taking the 5 is NOT seeing California, not north of San Diego, anyway. Take the 1/Pacific Coast Hwy/101 next time, and see more of this:
And then head inland and hit Yosemite, Sequoia, Death Valley, etc. etc. etc.
