School fight in Dothan, AL ends with student in chokehold
Cellphone video of a fight on October 21, 2015 between two students at Honeysuckle Middle School in Dothan, AL. It ends with an unidentified teacher holding one of the students in a chokehold. Dothan police are investigating the matter.

School fight in Dothan

A Dothan middle school teacher is on paid administrative leave after allegations he injured a student while trying to break up a fight.

This fight between two students at Honeysuckle Middle School on Wednesday was captured on cell phone video and subsequently posted on social media. The video shows an adult, who appears to be teacher, grab a student around the neck and pull him to the ground.

The teacher's name hasn't been released.

"We are still investigating it right now," Dothan Police Lt. Will Glover told AL.com Thursday morning. "We are hoping to be through with it today. At this point right now, we are leaning towards there won't be any criminal charges against the teacher."

He said the teacher was trying to do what he could to defuse "a very volatile situation."

Two of the students involved in the fight could face disorderly conduct charges, but that would be up to the school resource officer, Glover said.

The mother of one of the students involved told WTVY that her son was mishandled by the teacher and suffered a concussion. The mother's name wasn't released.

Glover said one of the students was injured in the fight, but he didn't know if the injury was a concussion.

wow, looks like a bunch of animals with no self control.

The teacher did the right thing imo.

Do you think the teacher did anything wrong?

If yes, please state exactly what he did wrong and what you believe should have happened here.

It's because the teacher was white.

Racists. :nono:

But I agree. There should be a police investigation...into the criminal behavior of the combatant students and the persons cheering them on.

happened all the time in the school i taught in :idunno:

we weren't allowed to touch the kids - just call for security

we had rochester police stationed in the school

and not a lick of teaching would get done the rest of the day - the school would be buzzing about the fight

Nah, I have trained jiu jitsu for awhile and I have gone out to something like that before. As long as he didn't hold it for a prolonged period of time (which I don't think he did), it will make you take a nap and you will usually snap right back a few seconds later. No harm, no foul from this grumpy owl.

Not sure if you still have me on ignore...but:

It looks like the teacher didn't apply a carotid sleeper hold (which makes the suspect go night night for a few seconds) but instead used the hold as leverage to take him down.

It did look a bit high, with that you have to be careful with any violent motions that can cause damage to the spine/neck. Again, didn't see any of that either. Either way, I don't think he should get the book chucked at him.

I don't think anything the teacher could have done would have been considered right.

It's gotten to the point where the parents should be required to sign a waiver which would enable their kids to pound one another into oblivion with no expectation of adult intervention.

The volatility in this situation is very dangerous. All of these kids were wrought up. I'm imagining the teacher did the best he could to stop the escalation of violence?
Is this an example of what teachers are up against?

yes, in public schools all over, its not limited to inner city. Here is one of many small town examples of the same thing: (see link for video)

Wynne, Arkansas - Wynne is the county seat and largest city of Cross County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 8,367 at the 2010 Census

WYNNE, Ark. (FOX13) - At least 12 Wynne High School students have been arrested Sept. 26 after a lunch period brawl. Cellphone clips caught the melee.

In the video you see a student wearing a gray hoodie and black pants who casually walks up to another male student and throws a punch. It looks like there are at one of the entrances to the school. Immediately after others join in and hard to see who is doing what.

A large crowd starts punching each other back and forth. There are even some female students in the mix, before the video ends.

Parents FOX13 News spoke are shocked at this violent behavior.

“That's just terrible," said said Cameron Tavron. "That's just an outrage. Something needs to be done to prevent that.

"If it was Forrest City it wouldn't surprise me but Wynne surprised me," added Emmaline Holland.

Twelve students were arrested as a result. School officials did not want to go on camera, but Wynne Public Schools Superintendent Carl Easley posted a message on Facebook. Some of the students have been suspended.

The Wynne Police Department says all involved are juveniles so they will all go through the juvenile court system.

The school administration says they will be meeting with the parents of each student and collecting statements.

Superintendent Easley said he will be making statement Tuesday on the melee.

Full Facebook post here:

Dear Faculty, Staff, Parents, and Students,

On Friday during lunch a fight occurred on central campus between several students. As a result of the fight 12 students were arrested. Everyone involved are students at Wynne High School. The high school administration will be meeting with the parents of each student during the day on Monday and collecting statements from each in order to give them their due process before disciplinary action is taken.

The safety of all of our students is a priority. There will be additional staff on duty during the week as well as additional police officers. We plan to have a normal homecoming week with all regular activities taking place. Current postings on Wynne Topixs are not true and only serve to further disrupt the normal operations of the school district. I will give a written statement to the news media after the investigation is completed and all students have been afforded their due process rights.

We have a great student body at Wynne High School and the poor choices of a few should not reflect negatively on the whole group.

Florin high, brawl

Student slams principal to floor during cafeteria melee caught on video

Three Sacramento-area high school students were arrested after a principal was slammed to the floor during a melee that was recorded on video and posted to social media.

Two 15-year-olds and a 13-year-old face serious charges, including making threats to students and law enforcement and battery on school staff, in connection with Monday’s cafeteria brawl at Florin High School, said Sacramento County sheriff's Sgt. Tony Turnbull.

Video of the fracas was later posted to YouTube and Facebook.

The video shows students yelling and running while others frantically climb onto tables to watch a fight between students. At some point during the fight, a student wrestled with Principal Don Ross and violently shoved him to the floor. Ross got back to his feet and restrained the student with the help of other adults.

Three school officials were injured and needed medical attention, Ross said in a letter sent to parents later that day. None of the students were injured.

In the letter, obtained by KTXL-TV, Ross explained that 10 to 12 students were involved in two separate incidents, resulting in multiple fights.

In the first incident, eight to 10 students were fighting over a week-old dispute about a relationship, he said. Later, another brawl broke out between two students after one insulted another.

Ross said the students involved would be disciplined.

“The safety of our students and staff is a top priority at our school,” Ross wrote in the letter.

Florin high is one of nine high schools, not including a regional occupational program, in the Elk Grove Unified School District. Nearly 1,500 students attend the high school, which is about 11 miles from the state’s capitol.

School officials suspended four students last year, according to a California Department of Education’s school accountability report card. The report did not list the reason for the suspensions.

School officials will hold a meeting Thursday evening to discuss Monday’s disturbance and their plans on moving forward.

This is happening all over the US in public schools anymore.

Student Charged With Battery On Police Officer During School Fight

MIAMI SPRINGS (CBSMiami) – What began as a fight between two boys ended with one of the young men going on a rampage, using his fists, according to students. Witnesses say the student swung at everyone from the lunch lady to a police officer.

Chaos erupted in the cafeteria during lunchtime Tuesday at Miami Springs Senior High School when the fight broke out.

“Everyone started running toward the front of the cafeteria because some kid pushed another kid against the wall,” student Sharon Addin told CBS4’s Natalia Zea.

Students jumped on top of cafeteria tables during the commotion.

According to witnesses, when a cafeteria worker, vice principal and security guard tried to intervene, they became victims themselves.

“They were trying to break up the fight,” said student James Desgouttes.

Addin added, “He started hitting a bunch of people. He started like punching a bunch of people for no reason.”

Student Brian Brelman gave the same account.

“The kid started fighting the security guard, and everyone else,” he told Zea.

When a police officer arrived, students say the young man turned on him.

“One of the policemen came in and the kid punched him, and the police ended up tackling him to the floor,” recalled Addin.

That student was arrested and, according to officials, the other student involved in the fight will be disciplined administratively.

The incident gave students a lot to talk about, but most, like Michael Cabrera chalk it up to high school fighting that could happen anywhere.

“This is a good school, there’s nothing bad about it. Everything happens, it happens to everybody,” said Cabrera.

The student who was arrested is charged with battery on a law enforcement officer and could be in even more trouble than that, if the lunch lady and other school staff decide to press charges.

And another from this morning:

Colorado Springs school fight began as argument between girls

An argument between some Sierra High School girls turned into a physical fight Wednesday morning in the cafeteria, with other students joining in but no one severely injured, school and Colorado Springs police spokeswomen said.

The only weapons used were "fists and feet," said police Lt. Catherine Buckley. She said 21 students were detained and questioned at the Sand Creek substation, then released to their parents or guardians. No arrests had been made pending further investigation, including a review of the school's internal video, Buckley said.

"Students involved in the fight will be disciplined appropriately," said school spokeswoman Christine Lyle. "There will be consequences."

The fight started in the cafeteria, where up to 100 students might have been at the time, Lyle said. A lot of spectators joined in the melee, which moved outdoors and then back inside the school, she said.

"You have to give some credit to the staff and security at the school, as well as the (police) school resource officers, who reacted quickly," Buckley said. The school has two armed resource officers from the police department, plus two armed security officers from Harrison School District 2 and some unarmed campus security officers, Lyle said.

Group: Colorado inmates languish in jail without mental care

The fight was reported at 10:50 a.m., and at least 10 police officers immediately headed to the school at 2250 Jet Wing Drive in southeast Colorado Springs, Buckley said.

"As they were breaking up that original disturbance, skirmishes broke out among groups of other students," she said.

"One big concern was that people saw tactical enforcement officers on scene. They were actually training close by. There weren't requests for additional officers. They did clear the scene and go back to their training," she said.

One student complained about a hurt lip, but no other injuries were reported, Buckley said. And all students involved were from Sierra High.

The fight was quelled quickly, Buckley said. But because of a city computer glitch, she said, she didn't have exact times or the numbers of officers and police cruisers responding.

At least a dozen police cars surrounded the school, she said, and medical crews came too. Several handcuffed students were seen being placed in police cars.

Parents said police would not let them onto the campus unless their children had been in the fight.

Sierra sophomore Vanessa Escobedo said she thought the fracas was gang-related, but Lyle and Buckley said there was no evidence of that.

"Everybody decided to get into it," Escobedo said after being released from school just before 1 p.m. "People just put themselves in situations like that."

Harrison School District issued an email alert about 1 p.m. that the disturbance had been ended, and students were to be dismissed at their regular times.

and another article about it:

Police Respond After Large Fight Breaks Out At Sierra High School

A large fight at a Colorado Springs high school may result in disturbance charges for the students involved.

At least 15 students were involved in the fight, which started in the Sierra High School cafeteria before spilling over into the gym. Initially, school resource officers on campus dealt with the situation, but as the fights escalated, the Colorado Springs Police Department's Tactical Unit responded to the scene.

A spokesperson with CSPD says faculty at the school may have been assaulted. The investigation is still ongoing.

Some students were detained, and officers are trying to figure out who will face charges. Police are also trying to work out whether or not the fight was gang-related.

The school went on lockout status as a response to the fight, and will remain so for the remainder of the day even though the situation is now stabilized. Classes will go on as normal, but parents who were already on campus can pick up their children at the school flagpole.

11 News is working to get more information, and will update this story as new details become available.

Video of fight at St. Clair County High School outrages parents

ODENVILLE, Ala. (WIAT) — A video posted online of a fight at Saint Clair County High School is outraging parents. The video shows about eight students trapping another boy in the bathroom. One of the students then begins beating him.

According to the Saint Clair County Sheriff’s Office, the fight happened Friday morning. The injured student was taken to a hospital for treatment. Six of the students involved in the fight were taken to a juvenile facility, then released to their parents. Two others remained in custody pending court proceedings.

WIAT 42 News received a statement from Superintendent Jenny Seals, saying in part, “it is anticipated there will be serious consequences for those individuals” involved in the fight.

However, some parents say this is enough to make them think twice about sending their kids to school. “That could be my baby. That’s my biggest fear. I didn’t let her go to school today,” said Ashley Webster, whose child has disabilities.

Other people in Odenville say the video backs up allegations of bullying in the school system. “it’s not unexpected,” said Ryan White, who lives near the school.

According to the statement released by the school system, the injured student is recovering and doing well. Because the eight students involved in the fight are juveniles, their names will not be released.

One of these days, there's going to be a report of an on-duty Muslim cop, probably black, who shoots somebody for no justifiable reason. The left will ignore or try to make excuses for it. The idiots here on TOL will pretend to not notice the post on it.
