Most "pagan" concepts are based in reality.

The Greek "Hades" is one of those concepts.

Why would you attempt to deceive the sheep, on this board, with your made up, devious "is not even in the original text of the bible."? How would you know that? You've examined "the original text," have you? Save it-it's a rhetorical q, exposing you as a fraud, as you just saw this "not even in the original text of the bible" on another site. Hell and burning hell are fundamental Pharisaic concepts upheld by the majority of Hebrew speaking Jews back in Jesus' days. The term hell is an rather new English word used. The corresponding Greek word is Hades which is used to interpret the Jewish word Sheol. Sheol refers a dark place where humans souls are detained. The equivalent term for burning hell is the Lake of Fire.

This is how first century Jewish historian Josephus tried to explain Sheol (Greek word Hades) to the Greeks.

An Extract Out of Josephus’ Discourse to the Greeks Concerning Hades

1. Now as to Hades, wherein the souls of the of the good things they see, and rejoice in the righteous and unrighteous are detained, it is necessary to speak of it. Hades is a place in the world not regularly finished; a subterraneous region, wherein the light of this world does not shine; from which circumstance, that in this region the light does not shine, it cannot be but there must be in it perpetual darkness. This region is allotted as a place of custody for souls, ill which angels are appointed as guardians to them, who distribute to them temporary punishments, agreeable to every one's behavior and manners.
2. In this region there is a certain place set apart, as a lake of unquenchable fire, whereinto we suppose no one hath hitherto been cast; but it is prepared for a day afore-determined by God, in which one righteous sentence shall deservedly be passed upon all men; when the unjust, and those that have been disobedient to God, and have given honor to such idols as have been the vain operations of the hands of men as to God himself, shall be adjudged to this everlasting punishment, as having been the causes of defilement; while the just shall obtain an incorruptible and never-fading kingdom. These are now indeed confined in Hades, but not in the same place wherein the unjust are confined.

Jesus didn't refute this concept, He made use of this concept as an illustration in at least one of His parables.

Hell. Germanic origin: Pagan Myth. The word was used to transfer the Pagan concept to Christian theology. For the Judaic-Christian origin of the concept, see Gehenna.
Hell
Old English hel, hell, of Germanic origin; related to Dutch hel and German Hölle, from an Indo-European root meaning ‘to cover, conceal, or hide.
Hell was taught in Greek philosophy by Plato between 427-347 BC.

Hell
Also Hell, Old English hel, helle, "nether world, abode of the dead, infernal regions, place of torment for the wicked after death," from Proto-Germanic *haljo "the underworld" (cognates: Old Frisian helle, Old Saxon hellia, Dutch hel, Old Norse hel, German Hölle, Gothic halja "hell").

The English word may be in part from the Old Norse mythological Hel (from Proto-Germanic *halija "one who covers up or hides something"), in Norse mythology the name of Loki's daughter who rules over the evil dead in Niflheim, the lowest of all worlds (nifl "mist"). Hell is a pagan concept and word adapted to Christianity.

Hades ( /ˈheɪdiːz/; from Greek ᾍδης (older form Ἀϝίδης), Hadēs, originally Ἅιδης, Haidēs or Άΐδης, Aidēs (Doric Ἀΐδας Aidas), meaning "the unseen") was the ancient Greek god of the underworld. The genitive ᾍδου, Haidou, was an elision to denote locality: "[the house/dominion] of Hades". Eventually, the nominative came to designate the abode of the dead.

In Greek mythology, Hades is the oldest male child of Cronus and Rhea. According to myth, he and his brothers Zeus and Poseidon defeated the Titans and claimed rulership over the cosmos, ruling the underworld, air, and sea, respectively; the solid earth, long the province of Gaia, was available to all three concurrently.

Hades was also called "Plouton" (Greek: Πλούτων, gen.: Πλούτωνος, meaning "Rich One"), a name which the Romans Latinized as Pluto. The Romans would associate Hades/Pluto with their own chthonic gods, Dis Pater and Orcus. The corresponding Etruscan god was Aita. Symbols associated with him are the Helm of Darkness, the bident and the three-headed dog, Cerberus.

She-ol (sheol) [[Heb shaal , to dig]] A place in the depths of the earth conceived of as the dwelling of the dead. Note: In the KJV about half of scriptures are translated as hell, the other half as grave.

Is this a Pagan insertion in our bible?

[h=3]The Rich Man and Lazarus[/h]19 “There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day. 20 At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores 21 and longing to eat what fell from the rich man’s table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores.
22 “The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried. 23 In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. 24 So he called to him, ‘Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.’
25 “But Abraham replied, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony. 26 And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been set in place, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.’
27 “He answered, ‘Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my family, 28 for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.’
29 “Abraham replied, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets; let them listen to them.’
30 “‘No, father Abraham,’ he said, ‘but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.’
31 “He said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.’”

Would Christ introduce the Pagan concept of Hell into Christianity? The word Hell is not even in the original text of the bible.

What are your thoughts on this subject?

While you're at it, throw out also the concept of an afterlife in a Paradise.

It too is a concept common to many a pagan culture.

"Frateres! (Brothers!) Hold the line! Stay with me! And if you find yourself alone, lying in green fields, with the sun on your face, do not be troubled; for you are in Elysium - AND YOU ARE ALREADY DEAD!!!" - a bit of humor from the great Roman General Maximus, to his mighty troops right before a major battle against the hugely formidable Germania, in the movie classic "Gladiator."

Rom. 5:6-8.

"It's like talking to the Marx Brothers around here.

Personally, I continue to find it hilarious whenever two or more parties in "a conversation" each conclude that the other is actually the one who can't see the obvious.

Which is what we are each guilty of, here.

:rotfl:

True, all sides can not all be right on this issue you are all over yourself about.

And true, one side may or may not be right.

And not even the fact that more people appear to be agreeing with one another on this than with you: not even this fact would automatically "make it so" *

Still, someone must be.

And it is obvious it is not you.

:chuckle:

Yes he did in the rich man and lazarus parable:
[19] There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:
[20] And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores,
[21] And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.
[22] And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;
[23] And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
[24] And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.
[25] But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.
[26] And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.
[27] Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house:
[28] For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.
[29] Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.
[30] And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent.
[31] And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead. Lk 16:19-31

The Pagan and Gnostic Jews believed in Hell and the such, but not the Ulta-Orthodox Jews.

No. Instead the Orthodox Jews formed their own concepts after AD200. Before AD 70, Hebrew speaking Jews (which is Jews in majority) adapted the Pharisaic concepts of what hell is.

Religious sects back in Jesus' days;

1. Essenes
Believe in eternal hell, immortal soul and no freewill but predestination

2. Sadducees
Believe in no hell, no soul but complete freewill

3. Pharisees
Believe in eternal hell, immortal soul and partial freewill and partial predestination

Pharisees back then were guardians of the Jewish Scripture out of which the Sadducees only reckoned the first 5 books of Moses. It was also the Pharisees to enforce the Oral Law. Jews in majority were all using the Pharisaic version of the Bible. Even the Hellenistic Jews were using a similar one which is the Septuagint (containing more books than the Pharisaic canon).

Either people are commenting without reading what I wrote, or they are as dumb as a stick.

Since you have taken sides with the Serpent, who says; you will not surly die: This must mean that you are Pagan Christians.

Only Pagans believe they do not truly die. Real Christians believe that immortality is an act of God. And that is a defining difference between Pagans and Christians.

Revelation 20:14
Then death and (Hades / Grave) were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death.

With Death and the Grave being done away with, how is it that there is anyone alive in the lake of fire?
