ECT We really need to pay close attention to James’ warnings!

If all the proofs vs. OSAS were posted at once, the system would crash!

James was writing to Jewish believers whose salvation was in doubt.

And the best of what he has to offer is an old fav of mine,
and should be an old fav of everyone who loves Jesus, but alas 'tis not …

James 1:12-16, NKJV
"Blessed is the man who endures temptation;
for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of (eternal) life
which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.
Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God”;
for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone.
But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed.
Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin;
and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth (eternal) death.
Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren."

Yes, I may need to post proof again that "the crown of life" IS eternal life!
So, any offers (of requiring proof)?
Meanwhile, how much overcoming of sin is required for one to finally
be approved unto eternal life ... Oh, how about a whole life-time?
Yes, approximately 10 other verses agree that this is what is required!
(These are not listed below)

James 1:21-22, NKJV
“Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness (from your past life),
and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.
But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.”

But, Lord, some people think they are justified and saved
when they first receive the Holy Spirit.

James 2:24
“You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only.”

James 5:19-20, NKJV
“Brethren, if anyone among you wanders from the truth,
and someone turns him back,
let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way
will save a soul from (eternal) death and cover a multitude of sins.”

Now, let’s see … does the Lord kill the brethren who wander from the Truth?
No, don’t think so … never seen nor heard of that (except from el Tottster).
Oh, my, could it be that we’re talking here about eternal death (once again)?

Yes, it’s the same old story …
We must remain in the faith until death to finally receive eternal life
… because salvation is a life-long process.

John decided to lend James a hand ...
“And everyone who has this hope in Him
(to be “children of God”, verses 1 and 2)
purifies himself, just as He is pure.” (1 John 3:3)

Heb 10:35 Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward.
Heb 10:36 For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.
Heb 10:37 For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry.
Heb 10:38 Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.
Heb 10:39 But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.

You folks HAVE cast away your confidence which was once the cross...you are now relying on your flesh.

You have drawn back nor do you believe to the saving of the soul.

WE are the ones who believe to the saving of the soul

I find it amusing that you add "eternal" and "eternal death" etc without any thought

You can make scripture say anything you wanted to with that method

Yeah, kinda like how Martin Luther wanted to take out the books of James and Revelation from the Bible, because they didn't exactly agree with him.

What about respect of persons? And Pauls warnings like women without head coverings (a commandment)

You're only listing negatives that are the law of Christ. You forgot about all the positive commands. How do you expect to keep yourself saved if you overlooked all of the positives in the law of Christ?

Why don't you list all of the commandments given to the church in the New Testament?

Then you will have some credibility and not just be some random dude operating from a standpoint of fear and gloom.

No,

We are not foolish to think we are completely safe while we have control over our own lives, to give all or to draw back.

Paul encourages saved people to stay saved.

If you say we rely upon our own flesh then what makes you different.

Are you so spiritual when you try and ignore the Lords words of warning to His saints.

I do not trust the cross. I trust the Lord (a living person)who said we ought to be crucified with Him to be saved.

Mat 10:38 And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.

Mat 16:24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
Mat 16:25 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.

What do you do to maintain and keep up your salvation ?

maybe he would show this--

2Pe 1:4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
2Pe 1:5 And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;
2Pe 1:6 And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;
2Pe 1:7 And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.
2Pe 1:8 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
2Pe 1:9 But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.
2Pe 1:10 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:

2Pe 1:11 For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
2Pe 1:12 Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth.

Hi and NO , just as the Mosiac Law is not applicable to Gentiles and it's 613 Laws !!

James doesn't advocate keeping the Mosaic law, but he does refer to the perfect Law of Liberty.

There is just one body and one Spirit... (Ephesians 4:4 NKJV)

It is precisely because I do these things that I am accused by wicked people of not doing any of them, but none are perfect.

Personal Holiness.

Brotherly kindness.

The love of people presently outside of the Kingdom.

The three are important, and Christ spoke of the three.

We can be tested often on all points, but without seeing these things in Christ then one will not overcome ourselves.

Joh 8:31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
Joh 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

First;

9 As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed.

And to the point of doing works as faith alone does not justify....James said this;

22 Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect?

And Paul's rebuttal against the man whom sent spies at one point;

3Are you so foolish? Having begun in the Spirit, are you now being made perfect by the flesh?

What do you do to maintain and keep up your salvation ?
I'd say you haven't been paying attention to many posts in previous threads.
Presently, I'm working on a new thread, which will have a title, such as:
Is doing the will of God critical for salvation?
This thread will go into what Scripture says IS the will of God.
