What We Believe CAN Be Consciously Chosen.

"We cannot consciously choose what we believe."__ Internet Poster

The Bible specifically contradicts and repudiates that claim.

Christendom's core Bible verse, John 3:16, assumes that humans
can choose what they believe. "For God so loved the world that He
gave His one and only Son that whoever believes in Him shall not
perish but have eternal life." We CAN choose to believe that
John 3:16 is the truth and get the gift of eternal life ~ or we can
choose not to believe John 3:16 is true and get John 3:16's
perish.

"choose you this day" , , ,

"And if it seems evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day
whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served
that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites,
in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve
the LORD." Joshua 24:15

This also involved consciously choosing what one would believe. There
was a set of beliefs behind them choosing to serve the Lord.

Human Sin and the desire to protect that sin and to continue to sin,
is the father of the notion that beliefs cannot be consciously chosen.

When a person allows themselves to believe that beliefs cannot be
consciously chosen that means they can say to themselves: "Hey I have
no control over what I choose to believe, therefore I will NOT repent of my
sins and believe in God because I know that doing that would require
me to give up my sinning." Here we can list our your most enjoyable
sins that we want to hang on to.

Believing that beliefs cannot be consciously chosen will allow us to keep
on enjoying our favorite sins ~ and THIS, at bottom, is what UNBELIEF is all
about and has ALWAYS been about.

Free Will is heavily assumed throughout the Bible and the entire Bible
is written on the assumption that beliefs CAN be consciously chosen, and
in fact one's eternal destiny is based upon what one chooses to believe.

And yet so far no one has demonstrated such an ability in real time.

And yet so far no one has demonstrated such an ability in real time.
God calls rebellious sinners to come reason with Him. He promises to cleanse them of their sins if only they will turn to Him from their sins.

Isaiah 1:17-19

King James Version

17 Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow.

18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.
19 If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land:

What is stupid about it? I'm merely stating a fact - as of yet, no one has provided a demonstration of their ability to consciously engender a new belief in something.
Are we talking about creating a new belief or about accepting by faith what God says?

I agree with you.

Internet Poster ignores the one situation where we have just such a choice, ie, then we are offered conflicting suggestions as the nature of the reality of in which neither side can be proven... Then we will inevitably align ourselves with the pov that seems to us offer the most hope for happiness for us by choosing to accept that interpretation of the new consideration.

IP degrades the unproven hope of faith into the secular materialistic side of belief as only "already meaning accepted as real." A word diddle , if you will.

I'm confused. First you say that you agree with me and then you seem to be saying that you don't.

It seems like I wrote that on Nov 7, 2021. It also seems that the contradiction in what I wrote was probably because I quoted the wrong post for some reason. Thanks for the heads up!
