Here's where we as Christians miss the mark and fail to even think about taking up the cross.
Scientists have talked about the "flight or flight" response we all have to conflict. Jesus was advocating something unique--a "turning away" from our evolutionary programming.
That is why there is so much anger, sarcasm and self-justification on these message boards.
Whoever said Christianity is easy? There are always those who, in loud resonant tones, exhort us to believe, believe, believe and yet do nothing to alter their own behavior. Too often we settle for a faith that demands we repeat the Nicean Creed. that leaves us off the hook. It is a creed with an empty center and we have paid the price. It says nothing about Jesus' teachings.
