Arguing about words and trying to compare words from English and back to the Greek and then back to English is a common practice among Calvinists and others entrapped in false doctrines.

The reason preaching Christ is a sweet aroma to those who are being saved is because these people wanted more out of life than to please their flesh. They hear the message that saves and they have hope for something better.
Those who only want to live to please their flesh, the gospel is the smell of death to them because the gospel message is about giving up the sins they love to do to please their flesh.
You ignore truth when its presented to you!

This third group 1 Cor. 1:24 is Christ's Church, the called out ones [ekklēsía]; Christ's Sheep He calls by name, that shall hear His Voice:

Yes and they are born again of the Truth. Remember Jesus said in Jn 18:37

37 Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.

Preaching the Gospel to the lost or perishing !

Many in mans religion would tell us that the Gospel should be preached to them that are lost so they can have a chance at getting saved. Thats not biblical however, because the preaching to them which are lost/perishing the Gospel is foolishness. Listen to Paul here 1 Cor 1:18

For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

That word perish is the same word translated lost in 2 Cor 4:3

But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost,

So no lost sinner can believe the Gospel. #1 its foolishness to them #2 its hid to them !

This third group 1 Cor. 1:24 is Christ's Church, the called out ones [ekklēsía]; Christ's Sheep He calls by name, that shall hear His Voice:

John 10:3
To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out.

For their names, God's Elect, Chosen in union with Christ [jew and gentile], have been written in His Lamb's Book of Life Rev. 13:8.

Rom. 9:23-24
23And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory,

24 Even us, whom he hath called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles?

Rom. 9:11
(For the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth)

So the preaching of the Cross for the Redemption of all God's Elect exclusively, according to God's Eternal Purpose Eph. 3:11 shall remain a Mystery to the natural man.

All that reading and studying for naught.

Wouldn't you give it all up for God's Truth instead of John Calvin's?

The Gospel as a Word of Salvation is sent only to the born again, regenerated, spiritually alive. To them its the Gospel of their Salvation Eph 1:13

13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

See the natural man, or unregenerate man cannot hear [spiritually] the word of Truth. Jesus told some unregenerate jews this Jn 8:43,47

43 Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.

Jesus tells us who does hear Gods Truth Vs 47

47 He that is of God heareth God's words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.

As its stated in Eph 1:13, hearing the word of Truth preceded believing it Eph 1:13

In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

So one must first be of God to hear Gods Words Jn 8:47

He that is of God heareth God's words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.

Now what does " of God" mean here ?

Those scriptures prove you have to believe first before being saved.

Faith is from God, from reading His powerful message, the Bible, the New Testament. It has the powerful message that saves. We do not get faith supernaturally, as many teach, but we get faith in a very human way, from reading the supernatural message!

Acts 11:14 He will bring you a message through which you and all your household will be saved.'

2 Peter 1:3 His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.

WE MUST HAVE KNOWLEDGE OF GOD TO HAVE FAITH.

Where does our faith come from? Our faith comes from HEARING the word, see Romans 10:17. From hearing the word and being TAUGHT, Colossians 1:5, 7. From continuing in what we have been CONVINCED of, see 2 Timothy 3:14, and being PERSUADED, 2 Corinthians 5:11. In Acts 26:17 Jesus tells Paul he is sending him to the Jews and Gentiles to OPEN THEIR EYES and turn them from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God. How do you think Paul is going to open the eyes of the Jews and the Gentiles? Remember, faith comes from hearing the word, and Jesus sent Paul to preach the gospel. 1 Corinthians 1:18 For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel–not with words of human wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.

Paul is going to open their eyes by preaching to them.

Read what Paul says in Romans 16:25-27. Now to him who is able to ESTABLISH YOU BY MY GOSPEL AND THE PROCLAMATION OF JESUS CHRIST, according to the revelation of the mystery hidden for long ages past, but now revealed and MADE KNOWN THROUGH THE PROPHETIC WRITINGS by the command of the eternal God, SO THAT ALL NATIONS MIGHT BELIEVE AND OBEY HIM–to the only wise God be glory forever through Jesus Christ! Amen.

All God's Elect shall be Born of God in time and Hear His Voice 2 Thes. 2:13.

John 8:47a
He that is of God heareth God's words:

1 Pet. 1:22-23

22 Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren,
see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:

23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

So it's only everyone that is Born of that incorruptible seed, that heareth His Voice.

Yes, it means to be Born of God 1 John 3:9; 4:7; John 1:13, or Born of the Spirit John 3:6-8:

Being of the Truth means being Born of the Spirit and of the Truth; they are one and the same.

Eph. 4:21

He that is of God,.... Who is born, not of blood, by carnal descent from any person, or of the carnal will, or by the power of freewill, or of the will of the best man in the world; but of God, according to his abundant mercy, of his own will, by the power of his grace; and so has God to be his Father: such an oneheareth God's words; the doctrines of the Gospel, which have God for their author, being of his ordaining, sending, and publishing; and his grace for the matter of them, displayed in election, redemption, justification, pardon, adoption, and eternal salvation, and his glory for the end: now a regenerate man has eyes to see into the glory, loveliness, excellency, suitableness, and usefulness of these things; and he has ears to hear, and a heart to understand them, which others have not; and therefore hears them with pleasure, receives them in the love of them, cordially embraces them by faith, and distinguishes them from the words of man; and puts such of them in practice, as requires it:

It means be made Spiritually Alive by the Power of God John 3:6-7 as a result of one being reconciled to God by the Blood of Christ from Everlasting.

Rom. 5:9-10

9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.

10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.
