Post # 107 in the thread “God is not a person”

The Bible is progressive revelation over centuries. The first truth God taught His people was the great shema (Deut. 6:4). There is only one true God (Gen. 1:1). This was necessary in the midst of pagan, polytheistic religions. The person of the divine Messiah and Spirit and triune God were hinted at in the OT, but fully revealed in the NT. John shows us the Deity of Christ and the personhood/Deity of the Holy Spirit. Paul develops triune themes as do the other authors in the NT. In the fullness of time (Galatians; Heb. 1), God reveals more of Himself in the person of Christ and the Spirit. Cults look for one proof text to build a doctrine rather than all relevant verses in Scripture. The triune understanding is the only way to reconcile one God with the Deity of Christ and the personhood of the Spirit.

Well said godrulz! :first:

Make sure to put a date in your title for your POTD otherwise you end up with several threads with the same title. :)
