Ted Cruz has announced he is running for president. Cruz's mother was born in the USA; Cruz' father was born in Cuba. Ted Cruz was born in Canada.

Cruz is a very sharp lawyer. He must have his arguments all laid out in case there is a court challenge to his citizenship. If it is declared that a "natural born citizen" can mean that only one parent need be born in the US, and that the child need not be born in the US, we could be headed toward a strange future scenario.

Suppose an anchor baby (baby born on US soil to illegal immigrant) moves back to Mexico (for example), grows up, gets married and has kids. One of these children moves to the USA in his/her early 30's, then decides to run for President a decade later. If Ted Cruz sets the precedent, this person would be eligible to run for President.

I KNOW. If you look at the seal, that's not even embossed. It's just a flat decal. The director's signature is obviously an ink-stamp. Place of birth: Calgary, Alberta. Yeah--way to nail that down. Was he born in a hospital? A tent? On the prairie? Sheesh!
