Christmas traditions

Memories and favorites:
Cutting down the perfect fresh Cedar Christmas tree on our farm each year with my Dad. Decorating it with my sister.
One year receiving from Santa a small surrey and harness for my pony.
The fruit and candy in my stocking and the gifts under the tree. I still have a few. A doll, a China tea set, a tiny plastic horse, a much bigger cowboy and horse (Roy Rodger's type). Guess when I'm gone they will be too.
My Mon always had a delicious meal and I loved the Ambrosia and cake.
Walking around in town to see what a lot of my friends got for Christmas. Playing all day.
Christmas church choir music.

I don't remember our getting together like we now do - where many extended members of the family get together on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day.
We all lived in the same community ... and saw each other all the time. Christmas day was just the five of us at home.

This isn't a tradition to me, it is new. And I absolutely love it. I don't put decorations in the yard. And if I do it will be a nativity with Santa kneeling before the King of the Jews.
Wreath, lights, and a spotlighted Nativity Scene, which my husband carved from wood and painted white. I asked for it for my gift. Love it.

Traditions as an adult: For years now everyone comes to my house for TG and Christmas. It is a blend of families ... even in-laws. I had 22 for TG dinner and 11 for Christmas Eve party. Wish we did the Christian traditions but so many of us are not of the same political views or Christian faith. I guess our tradition is not to talk about politics or religion. My house though is totally Christian-decorated. I was sad my husband said a prayer TG but then didn't want to say one Christmas.

Food food food, lots of talking, laughing, gift giving are the traditions.
