It seems that once again, 'gay rights' trump Christian rights. What do you think of this story? Were the nursery right to fire the Christian?

If this is happening over here, it could easily happen in the US too (if it's not happening already).

A Christian children's worker who believes she was sacked after she told a gay colleague God doesn't condone homosexuality has launched an unfair dismissal claim.

Sarah Mbuyi believes a chat with a lesbian co-worker led to her being given the boot from Newpark Childcare in Shepherd's Bush, west London.

Belgian-born Miss Mbuyi claims that in January last year, a colleague raised the issue of what the Bible teaches on homosexuality.

She alleges her co-worker felt unhappy the Church did not allow her to marry her female partner, and said that she thought God condoned homosexuality.

Miss Mbuyi explained: "When I said 'No, God does not condone the practice of homosexuality, but does love you and says you should come to Him as you are', she became emotional and went off to report me to my manager."

At an internal disciplinary hearing on January 8, Miss Mbuyi was confronted with her colleague's allegations including that the woman had taken offence at being give a Bible as a gift by Miss Mbuyi.

She was dismissed for gross misconduct by nursery directors who are said to have told her that she had breached the equality policy of the nursery.

At the tribunal, it is expected she will argue she has the right, under EU law, to enter into conversations with adult co-employees subject to the normal principles of engagement in speech.

Miss Mbuyi claims that she had previously discussed matters of faith and religion without any offence being taken, the Christian Legal Centre (CLC) said.

Saying that her disciplinary hearing was "hopelessly one-sided" Miss Mbuyi added: "It is obvious that we live in a climate where being Christ-like-following the Bible as much as we can-and being open and honest about that, is a problem now."

Andrea Minichiello Williams, chief executive of the Christian Legal Centre, said: "Sharing Biblical truths out of genuine love for colleagues is being outlawed in the workplace by an oppressive 'cultural correctness'.

"There is a culture of fear which shuts down freedom of speech and the expression of faith.

"It's indicative of the sad state we're in that we're using EU Law in Sarah's case because she was prevented from living out her faith in a country which once led the world in freedom and justice."

If the news article is accurate, IMO it's a wrongful termination. According to the article, it was the co-worker who initiated the religious discussion and Mbuyi merely expressed her beliefs.

If that's accurate and there's nothing more to the story, then it's not at all fair to allow one person to express their beliefs but not another.

There's no freedom of speech or right to free speech in the workplace. This is not about rights, and to confuse it for such is to not even have a basic understanding of what rights are.

That would be fine and all IF the person who making the complaint had not initiated the conversation ...

Either both should be fired ... or neither.

Does this still apply if one is asked a question by their colleague?

Hmm. Was a question asked?

Anyhow. I believe neither should be fired, but both should be warned that religion and sexuality is not a conversation to have at a nursery. THen fire them next time it comes up.

There are more appropriate times and places to discuss one's religious views, particularly if they are critical of your fellow workers.

Being fired seems like an over-reaction - unless there is more to this story than is being reported!

why are they letting homos work with children?
They're safe "resodko," its not "communicable."

treating sinful perversion as normal and acceptable isn't communicable?
No more "communicable" than "homophobia!"

In fact, Christ was far more critical of the self-righteousness and hypocracy of the chief priests and Pharisees than He ever was concerning the sins of the average person.
