I'm hoping the following progression helps clarify the distinction I've been trying to make, Clete. Rather than simply asserting that a moral reason doesn't necessarily create a moral obligation, I want to walk through a few examples, beginning with a relatively straightforward jurisdictional...

Then you are not a Christian. Jesus also made it clear, and the scriptures support it, that He was, and is, and always will be, God. No, it didn't. Belief in Christ's deity did not begin more than a century after His death. Paul was already writing about Christ's divine status in the first...

Precisely! Justice isn't concerned solely with punishing the guilty. It's also concerned with protecting the innocent from unjust punishment. Ezekiel 13:19 condemns both killing those who should not die and keeping alive those who should not live. Proverbs 17:15 likewise condemns both...

:) Then let's drop should versus must as terminology, because I don't want the argument to turn on how we're using those two words. The distinction I'm making is between a genuine moral reason for doing something and an all-things-considered moral obligation to do it. And criminal justice...

Au contraire... You've definitely revealed several weak points in my position that I previously did not have answers to, but which have now been shored up. So thanks for that! :) And if you can establish the must I outline below, then my position collapses outright, because Bob's arrangement...

But that's precisely the point at issue. I'm not asking, “If justice requires it, why should we do what justice requires?” Obviously, because justice requires it. I'm asking: Does justice require that some domestic human authority possess jurisdiction over the highest human ruler in the...

No. That still assumes the point in dispute. I am not claiming that a jurisdiction which already extends over the king somehow “ceases to apply” when he commits a crime. I am disputing your claim that God's general delegation of punitive authority to civil government necessarily entails...

Why do you keep claiming you've answered a question you plainly haven't answered? The thread is still there for everyone to read. The question you have answered, which I did not ask, is, "Is Jesus the Messiah?". But the question I asked is, "Is Jesus God?". Please answer the question I...

Abraham was not wrong to challenge God. The God of the Bible is not some abstract Being that follows a set of programming rules to the letter.

You didn't answer the question. Is Jesus God? You've listed numerous things we must do. Sounds very much like a works-based system of salvation. What happened to Christ's role? What about what Paul taught in Romans 4? Not what I asked. What did Jesus' death, burial, and resurrection...

Before going further, I'd like to get a better understanding of what you actually believe. 1. Do you believe Jesus Christ is God, who existed before His incarnation? 2. What must a person do to be saved? 3. What do you believe Jesus accomplished through His death and resurrection? 4. Do you...

No, because He has the right to take back the life that he gave man however He sees fit. Murder is the unjust taking of human life, and God will not act unjustly.

Stop bearing false witness against your neighbor. I have repeatedly told you that this is not what Open Theism teaches. God can determine future events and guarantee that they occur. What is not already settled are genuinely undetermined choices that God has not predetermined. No. The...

The popularity of an idea has no bearing on whether it is true. So then learn the truth and stop teaching falsehoods. Yeah, it's called letting the text speak for itself, not "I'm going to impose my personal interpretation on the scriotures and take that interpretation as the truth...

A six year old shot his teacher with a gun he stole from his mother's purse, then when the police arrives, verbally (and vulgarly) abuses both the cops and the teacher (counselor?) who is holding onto him so he can't go back to pick up the gun.

Simply presenting evidence isn't enough. You have to show that the evidence supports your position. You have yet to do so. Straw man. You've been corrected on this repeatedly. Attributing an argument to me that I haven't made doesn't refute anything I've said. Yes, God has foreknowledge...

Saying it doesn't make it so. God can know generally what a group of people will do within a given set of circumstances. That does not establish exhaustive infallible foreknowledge of every future free choice. Begging the question. You're assuming that whichever choice ultimately occurs...
