Yep. The data show some benefit to wearing cloth masks for the wearer, but the major benefit was always known to be that it would help prevent the wearer from infecting others.

funny how two people can look at the same data set and draw such different conclusions - I look at the data and find that there is no benefit to wearing a mask for the wearer - infection rates are virtually identical, except for those who report using a mask "sometimes"

Where I live, not wearing a mask is a really bad idea. It's not just the shops, buses, trains etc that turn you away, it's the fines.

All our medical workers wear masks all shift long, and then I read laymen trying to be clever about why they don't work. Duh.....

I have seen doctors and nurses in the Wards, Urology Unit, Endoscopy Units, Ultra-Sound Scan unit and throughout the Corridors of a Large Kent Hospital this last fortnight and the masks worn by all were the same as the one I was wearing.

I guarantee you that they're following the same protocols in the hospital I used to work in, one of the top twenty in the world when I was working there.


What might be a more fruitful conversation would be a consideration of glove and mask use by the gen pop in those countries that have the Kung Flu under control. Used to be S. Korea and Taiwan - are they still models of excellence?

When I wore a mask when I was working in the OR or the ICU's, I also washed my hands literally hundreds of times a day. And gloved before touching a patient or a sample.

We're talking apples and oranges here.

there does seem to be a glove shortage now days.

n95 masks are 66% effective but are less effective if you contaminate them by constantly adjusting them

I wash my hands often at work and have learned to not touch my face

also don't remember doctors in clinics or ER's wearing masks pre wuflu

no one (hyperbole) handles mask correctly , everybody adjusts them while wearing them
they touch a door handle then later they adjust their mask , a warm & moist environment , a literal petri dish on their face,
so yes masks cause infection

cloth masks have a 97% failure rate at prevention
