No, act rationally. Listen to the science. Wear masks, social distance, wash your hands. Yes, the economy is in the tank, figure out how to move forward and at the same time work on the public health issues. But certainly dont have rallies where you dont care if the majority of attendees crowd together without masks.

Anyone who believes masks, lockdowns distancing and hand washing has had anything but a negligible role in stopping the spread of the virus is delusional.

You want a scientific inquiry? Explore the world a little. For example, have a look at what has happened in Taiwan. No lockdowns. Lots of maskless crowds. 500-odd cases and seven deaths.

The virus was over months ago.

So what is Taiwan doing different?

The problem is the "100 percenters" who try to understand the world by magical thinking. If masks don't work 100 percent, they assume that masks don't work at all. If only 4 percent of those becoming ill actually die, then they think there's no problem at all. The idea of taking the course with the best odds of being safe, while taking care of essential activities, is incomprehensible to them. So either "throw caution to the wind, or hide in the WH bunker"; no middle way, they think.

So what is Taiwan doing different?

I reckon the virus doesn't treat any nation any differently from the next. There might be strategies and practices that mitigate the spread to a certain extent. Taiwan probably benefited from having a population that is used to wearing masks anyway. It was not a struggle to implement mask policies and get near-universal buy-in.

However, masks don't stop viruses, even used properly all of the time. The difference between here and the US is probably 90 percent due to testing rates and definitions of what constitutes a case of the disease. Taiwan tests very few locals and it doesn't define COVID deaths as anyone who passed away with the disease as the US does.

It's a virus. These things spread. There is no way that the effect in one nation could be significantly different from another due to mask, lockdown or distancing policies.

There might be environmental, demographic or climate factors that change things from place to place, but masks?

Give me a break.

The virus was not over months ago you absolute imbecile. It's hitting it's expected second wave in the UK and you might write off hundreds of thousands of deaths as a non event but sensible and rational people don't. They also take sensible precautions that include mask wearing, social distancing and sanitising.

Dipstick.

In reality, it's unlikely that most such people are actually stupid; more likely, they are indoctrinated. The process has been studied. Here's a good book that explains irrational, often self-destructive behavior by people who are neither stupid nor insane:

Well worth a read for anyone who spends time here. You might even find a little compassion for some of those guys after understanding why they are as they are.

Yesterday, we had more new cases of COVID-19 than ever before. And the daily death rate is again trending upward.
https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/

Trump says the nation is ‘turning a corner’ as COVID-19 cases reach a new single-day record
At the debate in Nashville on Thursday evening, Donald Trump once again insisted that the nation had turned the corner on coronavirus, and that COVID-19 was going to “go away.”
https://dailysoundandfury.com/trump...covid-19-cases-reach-a-new-single-day-record/

Predictably, deaths are now trending upwards. Doctors are a lot better at handling the disease, but the death rate is still around 4%.

My youngest daughter's father-in-law died from the virus recently. Her husband, whom I love like a son, is hospitalized with pneumonia, but seems to be handling it. My daughter's test is not back yet. I was to be tested yesterday, but storms cancelled the testing. I'll be doing that Tuesday, now.

A lot of people have died because the fool in the WH lied to us about this, and more will die as he continues to lie about it.

Nope. They died from a virus and on average 2.6 comorbidities, which include motorcycle crashes.

In reality, it's likely that most people who believe that this is all the fault of Donaldtrump are actually stupid and indoctrinated. The process has been studied. Thank you for the update, I was thinking of your family and wondering how you were doing. I hope your son-in-law is out of the hospital soon, and that he doesn't have the lingering symptoms that so many are left with. And that your and your wife and daughter's tests come back negative.

Because Trump lied to him?

You're trying to reason with a leftist.

The Barbarian is taking advantage of the unconfirmable death of his "son-in-law's father" to bear false witness about the President. He's simply playing on emotion. He hasn't been here for a year and never discusses theology. He comes here to stir the pot before the election because it's fun for him and he has nothing else to do since he has retired.

"My youngest daughter's husband's father" . . . I'm sorry but that sounds like a line from Space Balls. So, supposedly, someone old in his rather extended family died. Ok, so everyone else in the world has to remain under a prison sentence to satisfy his ego?

Using personal stories which may or may not be made up to support a point is a common leftist tactic. There is no way to verify what actually happened in case The Barbarian mentioned. And considering, The Barbarian is not above lying, it could be completely made up.

So why use it? He's trying to play on sympathies because he knows he can't win the argument because the artificial inflation of the China virus deaths is absolutely true.

Youngest daughter's father-in-law, actually. Wondering why you felt the need to change it.

If that's what you think "social distancing" means, we've found your problem. No wonder you're frantic with anger. I'd be angry too, if I thought it was like that.

Sticks and Stones... :plain:

In fact there are hundreds of thousands of families like that in America, largely because Trump lied us about how serious it would be. And he's caught on audio admitting it.

So why deny it?

You're trying to play emotional accusations because you know you can't win the argument because the demonstrated fact that Trump lied to Americans about the impending virus deaths is absolutely true.

The game you're playing is automatically a loser for you. Try to put an honest and cogent argument together, instead. You still might lose, but at least you'd have your self-respect intact.

Sounds like a good idea, no?

if Trump is responsible for the deaths, then he's also responsible for the 5,742,074 recoveries

How many recoveries has Joe Biden managed?

Where is the change? Is there a husband she has other than the one you "love like a son"?

Or are you simply being a troll? :chuckle:
