Yes, it's not the parent's call.

Sure. It's the government's call.

And as for the parents that continue to seek to help (without abuse or torture, as mentioned in the op) their child get rid of unwanted same-sex attractions... they should be fined? Jailed? Have their children taken away?

They have the means to seek help for self-esteem issues. Is there a ugly-conversion program or one for a teen who thinks he's too short? We've all suffered through similar issues....what makes same-sex attraction more compelling to you?

Self-esteem issues? What are you talking about?

The kid's attracted to the same sex. His parents want to help him get rid of these attractions. The kid wants to get rid of these attractions. What should happen to the parents when they seek professional help?

Should they be fined? Jailed? Have their child taken away by the state?

If one does not follow any Christian teaching, then it must be nothing, but yucky.

Why exactly do they feel the need to change? They're obviously not measuring up to some intervening standard.

Why exactly do they feel the need to change?

They're experiencing attractions toward their own gender. They want those feelings to cease. What's so difficult to understand, here?

What (do you think) should happen to parents who seek therapy to help their child accomplish this?

They're too short to make the basketball team. What's so difficult to understand here?

I'm not in the biz to levy formal punishment....beyond my pay grade.

Seriously. What are you talking about?

The child's mental well-being...as opposed to the superficialities of peer and/or family expectation.

So it should be illegal... but you don't know whether there should be a punishment?

Perhaps, the parents may be liable to a civil suit...or a legal separation from the family. I dunno.

If that's what it take for them to live authentically....

That's insane, man. Really.

Then again, you think folks that think they're apples should be given the legal status of "apple."
So this conversation should really come as no surprise to me.

shouldn't the parent be the arbiter of what is best for the child's mental well-being?

Sure, love them unconditionally. Use therapy to help boost self-esteem...don't be the primary cause of their therapy.
