Is it?

If someone you loved was shooting heroin, would you find it hard to hate their dirty habit, while still loving the person?

at what point, though, does a person become defined by their actions?

consider a catholic priest, for example, who ministers to the sick, comforts the elderly, feeds the poor....

...and molests children

at what point does he become a child molester?

Of course, though...

Drug abuse is not a sin....plus it harbors tangible negative effects beyond the acts of abuse.
Sins, on the other hand, are mere religious ideologies. Your analogy's hereby challenged by their dissimilarities

How would that change any of it?

Molestation is the sin, and the molester is the sinner.
We are not to hate the molester.

Yes, abusing drugs is a sin.

But if you want to consider drug abuse an "illness," then we can try any other sin of your choosing.
What do you consider sinful?

Separate them? Why?

The child molester is vile and dangerous. He is certainly my enemy.
And Christ commands me to love my enemy.
