You guys ...

Dear Brother Granite,

You are continually trying to lump people together for the purpose of putting words in their mouth with which you can disagree. Why don't you just address the individual and what they actually said?

Love,

Mateo

"Being ruled by Him was insufficient. We have been paying the price for that ever since."

So you're saying "we" are paying for the price for something the Hebrews may or may not have did.

I think think peoples lives are a sort of abbreviation of so much of what we might consider history in the Bible and my life is no exception. I tried in my own Scotch/ Irish hard headed way to make the world around me right. Didn't work. It will never work. I know that now. I do not have the power however well intended I might be. We don't have the power.
Individually we do not. That is true. But collectively we have the power to do anything within our abilities. We may not be able to produce "utopia", but we could easily create a society that could feed, cloth, shelter, secure and heal all it's members. In fact, the ONLY THING stopping us from doing that right now is our own greed and ignorance. And all it would take to change this is our will to do so.

So why aren't we willing? A generation or two before us was willing to die for similar goals. And even to pay their taxes! So what happened to us? Why has our generation become so pathetically selfish, and unwilling to fight for better lives for all?

I am saying that we are paying the price for what they did and we still do. We will not let God and His word rule. We select from amongst ourselves others to perform His function and that endeavor is doomed to failure every single time. But, don't take my word for it, by all means, keep trying. Tell me how it works out.

In recent years, an alarming number of Catholic priests have been found to be pedophiles. And all the while they proclaimed the love and salvation of Jesus Christ.

Do you believe that the love and salvation of Jesus Christ is a lie, or is unobtainable just because a few priests who proclaimed it turned out to be pedophiles?

Do you believe that the social ideals of life, liberty, justice and opportunity for all are unobtainable simply because a few self-proclaimed socialists over the last few centuries turned out to be despots?

Are you incapable of recognizing the difference between the values of those ideals and the values of some of the men who proclaim those ideals? Because if you really are not able to grasp the difference, then I don't see how you could possibly still be a Catholic, unless you are a supporter of pedophilia.

Not a real comparison, since the few priests involved were a definite minority, while Communist dictators are pretty much the totality. Not to mention that the scandal was pretty much due to admitting homosexuals into the priesthood, something that your side seems to think is fair and desirable, to the point of finally beating down the Boy Scouts to admit them. That's what happens when you legitimize sin and vice.

These "few" were aided and abetted by the entire church. Catholicism is global child abuse.
