ECT Those who really love Jesus prove it -- unto eternal life

James 1:
12 Blessed is the man who endures temptation;
for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of (eternal) life
which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.

Wow, this verse covers a lot of ground.
Those who continually endure (pass) the test of being tempted to sin:
-- are blessed
-- will eventually be approved
-- will have proved their love for the Lord
-- will receive the promised crown of eternal life

Matthew 7:
21 Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven,
but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.
22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name,
cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’
23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you (Vine: approved of you);
depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’

John 14:
15 If you love Me, keep My commandments.
21 He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me.
And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him …”
23 If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him,
and We will come to him and make Our home with him.
24 He who does not love Me does not keep My words …

John 15:14 “You are My friends if you do whatever I command you.”
Jesus and His friends love each other!

1 John 2:
3 Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments.
4 He who says, “I know Him,” and does not keep His commandments,
is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
5 But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him.
By this we know that we are in Him.

This what being “in Christ” is all about.

James 1:
12 Blessed is the man who endures temptation;
for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of (eternal) life
which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.
13 Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God”;
for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone.
14 But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed.
15 Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin;
and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth (eternal) death.

The Lord doesn’t go around killing sinners with physical death;
no, we’re talking about eternal death here!

After sinning, you are hereby invited to have your sins washed away by Jesus’ blood:
1 John 1:
7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another,
and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.
8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins
and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.
1 John 2:
1 My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin.
And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.
2 And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins,
and not for ours only but also for the whole world.
6 He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.

Please notice (v.9) that you are NOT as righteous as you may think you are!
But, proper confessing of sin, i.e. sincere repentance, will remove your unrighteousness.

This confessing of sins here is referring to sincere REPENTANCE,
which is the sorrow over sins committed and the forsaking of them.

It's really incredible how people can mess up a website so badly!
No, beyond incredible.
Why not just shut the whole thing down?

The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God.”
They are corrupt, they have done abominable works,
There is none who does good.

Noticed the OP was missing Paul.
I wonder if Zachary has experienced initial justification.
Yes, I am actually reading the garbage responses to the OP!
As for yours, I'm glad you said "initial" justification.
Sounds like "initial" righteousness, which is absolutely correct.

Since the new believer's righteousness only applies initially, there are
approx. 10 NT verses which warn that one needs to "practice righteousness"
to continue to be in a glorious righteous standing in God's eyes!
In God's eyes ... not in your eyes!
This is done by trying to be obedient, and sincerely repenting upon screwing up!

Anyone care to see these 10 NT verses for the 10th time?

No. Everyone here obeys God's commands, we repent every second of every day and we strive to be righteous, thanks anyway.

ZachB is a see-saw Christian when he is up, that is he has relative victory over sin he'll be posting stuff like this.

When he is down

That is he falls into his sweetmeat temptation he is writhing too much in shame and grief to post.

For a few days he will be plaguing us about the need to be perfect or be damned then down he will go as sure as the sun rises in the east.

What ZB doesn't seem to realise is that whether he is in comparative victory over sin or whether he is in one of his just as frequent times of abject failure he is WHOLLY consumed with what his flesh is doing.

That is where his mind is focussed

The whole purpose of Hebrews is to move us on to maturity, to enter into the rest God has provided in Christ by the cross.

To UNDERSTAND with supreme satisfaction that Christ has put our sins away forever

It is this revelation when it is birthed in us that gives us the victory, we see sin and every instance and manifestation of it as totally conquered, finished, part of what Paul says "old things have passed away, behold all things have become new"

When you get the revelation you stop messing with sin, now you can begin to look and see what things Christ hath prepared for us....glorious things.

Nor will you be concerning yourself so much with other people's sin.

I hope that is sarcasm. Because I do no work. It is counted as debt if I do.

Mat 25:24 Then he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art an hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast not strawed:
Mat 25:25 And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, there thou hast that is thine.
Mat 25:26 His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed:
Mat 25:27 Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury.
Mat 25:28 Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents.
Mat 25:29 For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath.
Mat 25:30 And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Romans 4

3 For what does the Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.” 4 Now to him who works, the wages are not counted as grace but as debt.
