The Wonderful Dispensation of Grace

Lonster,

Since God gave the mystery only to Paul, Hebrews and Jude do not directly apply to us members of the Body of Christ.

Rom 16:25-27 Now to Him who is able to establish you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery kept secret since the world began 26 but now has been made manifest, and by the prophetic Scriptures has been made known to all nations, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, for obedience to the faith – 27 to God, alone wise, be glory through Jesus Christ forever. Amen.

After the Jews were set aside, they had to believe the gospel that God gave to Paul, just like we have to believe.

lightninboy,

Although John 3:16 is good, I prefer to use passages that are for our Dispensation of Grace.

What must we do to be saved? We have many answers to that question in the epistles that God inspired Paul to write. Here are a few.

Acts 16:30-31 And he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” 31 So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.”

Are we secure in our salvation? Yes, we are sealed by the Holy Spirit. We can’t lose it.

Eph 1:13,14 In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed by the Holy Spirit of promise, 14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.

Can anything separate us once we have trusted in Christ? Nothing “shall be able to separate us from the love of God.”

Rom 8:35-39 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 As it is written: “For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.” 37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. 38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Don’t we have to do good works after we are saved? We should, but we are saved “through faith, and that not of yourselves”, but God wants us to do good works.

Eph 2:8-10 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast. 10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

In Christ,

John 3:16 does not apply to the Christian? That's interesting. Can you please share with us what books of the Bible do apply to the current dispensation of grace? I am interested in learning how you "rightly divide" the Scriptures.

Pastor Hill,

You say the classic gospel verses of John require continuous believing and thus they are for an era of faith plus works?

Do your Pauline verses for evangelism in the Dispensation of Grace require continuous believing too?

If Nicodemus had taken Jesus at His word and believed on Him for everlasting life, he would have had eternal security. And since John 3:16 is talking about God's plan of salvation all the way back to Adam, one would properly assume that Old Testament saints had eternal security too. The Savior said whosoever will may come with Him to stay. "Whosoever" surely meaneth me. Oh, I know you've been through so much it's hard to contemplate letting go of your Mid-Acts Dispensationalism. The John 3:16 promise is yours and mine: Take hold of His love for the rest of your life.

The biblical basis for the concept of rightly dividing God’s Word is in 2 Ti 2:15 “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

We must realize what books are to us and what books are for us to understand.

When we see that God raised up the Apostle Paul to preach the new gospel of grace that was hidden in God until He gave it to Paul and told him to emphasize rightly divide God’s Word.

We must study to show ourselves approved to God and separate His Word written to the Circumcision in the Old Testament and by the Circumcision Apostles in the New Testament, from the Word inspired by God to be written by Paul to us members of the Body of Christ in the Dispensation of Grace.

When recognize that some of the biblical writings are not to us, even though they are profitable for us to read and understand, just as other biblical writings are not to Israel, the theology of God’s Word doesn’t get all messed up and confusing to the people to whom it was not sent.

That confusion, most of the time, causes people who do not rightly divide the word of truth to try to apply the writings of Peter, James, and John to us members of the body of Christ.

Again, all scripture is profitable for us to read, but not all scripture is addressed to or pertains to us members of the body of Christ.

When Jam 2:21 tells us that Abraham our father was justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar and James 2:24 says You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only, we see that there is a different method of salvation in the Circumcision Epistles of Hebrews through Revelation.

In the Dispensation of Grace, once we believe in Jesus Christ as our savior, we are sealed by the Holy Spirit and cannot lose our salvation. Eph 4:30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed unto the day of redemption.

When is the day of redemption? It is when we are caught up to be with God forever.

1 Thes 4:13-18 But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those (believers) who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. 14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus. 15 For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. 16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore comfort one another with these words.

We can grieve the Holy Spirit who is in us every time we are selfish or do not do what He wants.
Rom 8:9-11 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. 10 And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. 11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.

Because we are saved by the sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ, we in the Dispensation of Grace are also sealed by the Holy Spirit so we cannot lose our salvation. He is our guarantee.
2 Cor 1:21,22 Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and has anointed us is God, 22 who also has sealed us and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.

We are guaranteed. That means we can’t lose our salvation.

We in the Dispensation of Grace have an absolute assurance of our salvation.

I see. Therefore the gospels do not apply to Christians who are presently in the dispensation of grace. This would explain why evangelicals and fundamentalists fail to grasp the most basic teachings of Jesus. Also, dispensationalism makes it very convenient to maintain the preconceived theology of OSAS (Once Saved, Always Saved) by "dispensing" with the Jewish-Christian epistles (roughly one-third of the NT). Add the gospels, and the book of Revelation, and you have now dispensed with 12 of the 27 books in the NT.

This is very interesting. Dispensationalism would have us believe that the gospels - the core teachings of Jesus Christ - are not intended for Christians.

Pray tell, to which dispensation(s) do the gospels and the Jewish-Christian espistles, and the book of Revelation apply?

Dispensationalism alleviates the OSAS advocates from attempting to "word-smith" James 2:14. Brilliant!! Perhaps dispensationalists will now acknowledge that the passage actually does teach that faith and works are required for salvation. Evidently, faith and works are required for salvation; however, this requirement does not apply to the present dispensation of grace; it applies to another dispensation.

14 ¶ What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him? James 2:14

20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? James 2:20

Also, it is now reasonable to assume that dispensationalists will acknowledge that Hebrews chapters 3, 6 and 10 actually do teach that the believer can lose his salvation; and not only that he can lose it, but furthermore, once it is lost, there is no more opportunity for repentance.

12 Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.

13 But exhort one another daily, while it is called Today; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.

14 For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast unto the end
; Hebrews 3:12-14

4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,

5 and have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,

6 if they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.

7 For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from God:

8 but that which beareth thorns and briers is rejected, and is nigh unto cursing; whose end is to be burned
. Hebrews 6:4-8

26 ¶ For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,

27 but a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries
. Hebrews 10:26-27

However....Bob...your theology of OSAS still retains some problems - namely that the Pauline epistles apparently do not support your contention that a believer "once saved is always saved."

Here's just one example:

1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. Romans 8:1

The following passage in Romans says that there is "no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus"....WHO WALK NOT AFTER THE FLESH...but after the Spirit.

Hopefully, you will acknowledge this passage and provide us with a cogent exegesis.

Bob Hill "Again, all scripture is profitable for us to read, but not all scripture is addressed to or pertains to us members of the body of Christ".
I've been out posting for my LORD and learning more about this doctrine called Mid Acts Dispensationalism -MAD- and it is not of the Word of God in its invention and goes against all logic and all reason and all that is revealed in the Word of God.

MAD doctrine espousers have cut themselves off from any and all Scripture as being for themselves, for not one letter written by Paul was written to a single person espousing the MAD doctrine, using the logic you call "rightly dividing".

You, Bob Hill -and all of you who are MAD doctrine promoters and believers are not any of these:
Roman
Corinthian
Galatian,
Ephesian
Philippian
Colossian
Thessalonian.

Nor are you
Timothy
Titus
nor Philemon.
So -you have no Scripture written to you, for you.

So what should we do with the classic gospel verses of John?
What are they good for?
How do you get "faith plus works" out of "believeth"?
Don't they have such a striking similarity to Acts 16:30-31, Eph. 2:8-9, etc., that they must be considered for us today? And if for us today, why not for the Old Testament and pre-Acts 9 New Testament?
When does John 3:16 refer to? Who does John 3:16 refer to?
Do your Pauline evangelism verses require continuous believing too?

After we are saved, I think that the most important truth the Bible shows is the progressive revelation over many dispensations (literally, house rules) and many years.

What people had to believe, slowly, has changed from dispensation to dispensation (dispensation, oikonomia means house rule). For instance, we see that Peter was saved, but the Scripture shows that early in Christ’s ministry, Peter did not understand that the death and resurrection of Christ was what was necessary for his salvation.

Later, we find that Paul was given new material from God to show us how to be saved in our present dispensation, the Dispensation of Grace.

1 Co 15:1-4: “Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, 2 by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you – unless you believed in vain. 3 For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures.”

Our salvation in this present dispensation of grace depends on believing certain things. Paul wrote, under inspiration, that the gospel of salvation in the dispensation of Grace rested on the death, resurrection, and ascension of Christ.

Do we have to be water baptized in this present dispensation of grace, to have our sins forgiven? No.

But, under the dispensation when the 11 were presenting the message to the Jews after Christ’s resurrection, but before the body of Christ started with the salvation of Paul, Peter said water baptism was necessary for salvation.

Act 2:38 Then Peter said to them, Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

When Paul wrote to the Corinthians after the dispensation of grace had started, he explained to them since he had been to Corinth, that it was Spirit baptism, now.
1 Co 12:13 For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body - whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free - and have all been made to drink into one Spirit.

The 12 apostles under the gospel of the circumcision preached that you had to be water baptized to be saved, in contrast to the message that God gave Paul to write and preach. Paul wrote in 1 Co 1:17 For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel, not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of no effect.

In Christ, my Savior,
Bob Hill

Here is further information that God raised up the Apostle Paul and gave him a different gospel and dispensation from Peter and the eleven, who preached the gospel of the circumcision.

Paul was given a dispensation that was a mystery, never revealed before, the Dispensation of Grace.
1 Cor 9:17-18 For if I do this willingly, I have a reward; but if against my will, I have been entrusted with a dispensation. 18 What is my reward then? That when I preach the gospel, I may present the gospel of Christ without charge, that I may not abuse my authority in the gospel.

Eph 3:1-4 For this reason I, Paul, the prisoner of Christ Jesus for you Gentiles; 2 if indeed you have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which was given to me for you, 3 how that by revelation He made known to me the mystery (as I have briefly written already, 4 by which, when you read, you may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ)

We find in Acts 15 that Paul went up to Jerusalem to tell them about the new gospel that God gave to him according to Gal 1:11-2:10. The Holy Spirit showed the apostles at that council that Paul’s new gospel was valid.

Eph 1:5-10 which in other ages was not made known to the sons of men, as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to His holy apostles and prophets: 6 [Here’s the mystery.] that the Gentiles should be fellow heirs, of the same body, and partakers of His promise in Christ through the gospel, 7 of which I became a minister according to the gift of the grace of God given to me by the effective working of His power. 8 To me, who am less than the least of all the saints, this grace was given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ, (They couldn’t find it anywhere until God gave it to Paul.) 9 and to make all see what is the dispensation of the mystery, which has been hidden from the ages in God who created all things through Jesus Christ. 10 that in the dispensation of the fullness of the times He might gather together in one, the all things in Christ, both which are in heaven and which are on earth - in Him.

This gospel that was given to Paul was a different gospel in a number of ways. The Galatian material is all about these differences: Gal 2:7-9 But on the contrary, when they saw that the gospel of the uncircumcision had been committed to me, as the gospel of the circumcision was to Peter 8 (for He who worked effectively in Peter for [eis] the apostleship of the circumcision also worked effectively in me toward [eis] the Gentiles), 9 and when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that had been given to me, they gave me and Barnabas the right hand of fellowship, that we should go to [eis] the Gentiles and they to [eis] the circumcision.

Paul was faithful to this new program that God gave him. It tells us of his faithfulness in Col 1:24-29: I now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up in my flesh what is lacking in the afflictions of Christ, for the sake of His body, which is the church, 25 of which I became a minister according to the dispensation of God which was given to me for you, to fulfill the word of God, 26 the mystery which has been hidden from ages and from generations, but now has been revealed to His saints. 27 To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. 28 Him we preach, warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus. 29 To this end I also labor, striving according to His working which works in me mightily.

We should be faithful to this dispensational program that God gave to Paul for us.

But I have found, even on TOL, that most Christians do not even know that the Bible places so much importance on the Dispensation of the Mystery. Most Christians are not even aware that God says we all should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ, 9 and to make all see what is the dispensation of the mystery.

Because of this separation by God, there are 2 wonderful places where believers go when they die. For the circumcision believers, they go into the kingdom promised to David. Of course, God will be there. Christ will be the king.

For the body of Christ of this dispensation, we have a heavenly hope. Phi 3:20 For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. God will be there with us, too.

There are extremely important, major differences between our dispensation of grace and the circumcision dispensation. Works for salvation and water baptism for the remission of sins, are the two biggest differences between the circumcision gospel and the gospel that God gave to Paul. :chrysost:

In Eph 3:2, it says that we are in the dispensation of the grace of God: “if indeed you have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which was given to me for you.”

According to Eph 1:3, we see that God wants to pour out spiritual blessings on us Christians, and we see that these blessings are accomplished by the Father. Eph 1:3 “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ.”

But, it goes further. God chose us, corporately, in Christ. Whether this corporation was foreknown as a corporation or as individuals, is debatable. Eph 1:4 “in as much as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world.” I’ll deal with that later, but first, what does “chose,” mean?

This word in the Greek can be translated I select, or I choose. So the first thing we should know, is Jesus Christ is the selected one. Christ is the one in and by whom the Father accomplishes His blessings. Isaiah 42:1 said: “Behold! My Servant whom I uphold, My Elect One in whom My soul delights! I have put My Spirit upon Him; He will bring forth justice to the Gentiles.”

Christ was chosen to be the redeemer, not just for Israel, but also for Gentiles.

The body of Christ was a mystery, hidden in God until He revealed it to the Apostle Paul. Eph 3:1-9 For this reason I, Paul, the prisoner of Christ Jesus for you Gentiles - 2 if indeed you have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which was given to me for you, 3 how that by revelation He made known to me the mystery (as I have briefly written already, 4 by which, when you read, you may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ), 5 which in other ages was not made known to the sons of men, as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to His holy apostles and prophets: 6 that the Gentiles should be fellow heirs, of the same body, and mutual partakers of His promise in Christ through the gospel, 7 of which I became a minister according to the gift of the grace of God given to me by the effective working of His power. 8 To me, who am less than the least of all the saints, this grace was given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ, 9 and to make all see what is the dispensation of the mystery, which has been hidden from the ages in God who created all things through Jesus Christ.

Colossians reiterates this: Col 1:24-27 I now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up in my flesh what is lacking in the afflictions for Christ, for the sake of His body, which is the church, 25&26 of which I became a minister according to the dispensation of God which was given to me for you, to complete the word of God, the mystery, which has been hidden from the ages and from the generations, but now has been revealed to His saints. 27 To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ among you, the hope of glory.

Glory Hallelujah, :jump:
