The Paul Manafort indictment is much ado about nothing . . . except as a vehicle to squeeze Manafort, which is special counsel Robert Mueller’s objective — as we have been arguing for three months (see here, here, and here).
Do not be fooled by the “Conspiracy against the United States” heading on Count One (page 23 of the indictment). This case has nothing to do with what Democrats and the media call “the attack on our democracy” (i.e., the Kremlin’s meddling in the 2016 election, supposedly in “collusion” with the Trump campaign). Essentially, Manafort and his associate, Richard W. Gates, are charged with (a) conspiring to conceal from the U.S. government about $75 million they made as unregistered foreign agents for Ukraine, years before the 2016 election (mainly, from 2006 through 2014), and (b) a money-laundering conspiracy.

The Papadopolous confession exposes Trump as a liar regarding Russia (we already kinda knew that) and exposed Sessions to seeming perjury charges. That's a pretty solid start. It's true that the charges against Manafort don't cover the 2016 election, but they do cover actions he took working for the Ukrainian Party of Regions....working to support Russian interests. And Sam Clovis lost his nomination to be the USDA chief scientist, a position he was never qualified for but especially as he seems to be cooperating with Mueller's investigation.
Manafort is a seriously shady dude. He runs a consultancy firm for dictators and kleptocrat, primarily. And this is a guy Trump decided should run his campaign. It says a lot.
Now we just have to see if Republicans are as hypothetical as they seem.

First, Manafort did NOT run Trump's campaign. He was in charge of one aspect...working to get the delegates all on the same page. Find me a rich and powerful man without any dirt, and you might have something to talk about. It's common knowledge that these special counsels can dig up something on anyone.
So don't get out your cheerleading pompoms yet. :chuckle:
Seems you're following Trump's strategy of minimization, but it's just not honest. Manafort was the campaign chairman. It's basically the top spot under the candidate himself. And he was present at the meeting with the Russians in Trump tower that included DJTJ and Kushie.
And if rich men are so awful in your mind, maybe we should stop letting them run things. Just a thought.

Trump has always been a sleaze bag - always.
Even our banks had long since stopped lending to him - and THAT is a whole lot of huge, huge, huge loan fees to turn down - in the millions per loan.
Thus, I'll be really surprised if he somehow actually did manage to run the sleaze-free campaign his drones continue to delude themselves was possible under such a sleazy business man.
Not that Hillary was any cleaner.
Have to throw that in there, or the drones will attempt to assert one is a Clinton supporter, if not resort to their usual alt-"Right" "Christian" deflection - "well Hillary this, that, the other."
What hypocrites as "Christians" the Trump "Christians" continue proving they are.
Lol - I was talking to one of them yesterday, when "The President" came on, on some news show - the guy says to me "you know, I never really meant to vote for him..."

Right. He should be able to see into a man's heart just like God does.
For a President who wants the country to put their faith in the "extreme vetting" of those coming into the country, Trump appears "clueless" when it comes to doing his "due diligence" in vetting those whom he places in positions of power!
General Flynn was still an unregistered agent working for a foreign power (Turkey) while he was appointed as National Security Advisor!

Apparently, you conveniently forget that, in your support of the sleazy "businessman" from New York: Donald Trump.
He's the one who claims he's good at picking people. And the problems with some of these people were not secret when he picked them. Manafort was already a shady figure before the campaign. Flynn was fired from the Obama administration, and Trump was warned not to hire him. At some point, it looks like he either doesn't care, or he prefers bad guys.

Of course, isn't that how you flip people? You hit them with the lighter charges that are easy to plead guilty to in order to get them to cooperate on the deeper stuff. If you hit them with the big charges that scare them, they become less cooperative, not more.
Isn't the whole strategy here to indict Manafort with something he can swallow and simultaneously reveal Papadapolous' folding and cooperating in hopes of convincing Manafort to do the same? The goal is bigger than only justice for Manafort.
