Who are the "dead in Christ" in this verse?:

"For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord" (1 Thess.4:16-17).​

Besides that, what is the meaning of the words "rise first"?

Hi and 1 Thess 4:16 ans 17 are Pauline truth's not found in the OT or in the Gospels !!

There are only to verbs in verse 16 , SHALL DESCEND and SHALL RISE and both are in the FUTURE TENSES and have yet to happen !!

The word RISE , can be translated by the following words :

#1 , First
#2 , First of all
#3 , First in time ETC, ETC

Verse 17 has 4 verbs that describe the action , and 2 , SHALL BE CAUGHT and BE are also in the Greek FUTURE TENSE and have yet to happen as all believers saved by Grace are still HERE !!

The word RISE , can be translated by the following words :

#1 , First
#2 , First of all
#3 , First in time ETC, ETC

That is the meaning of the Greek word translated "first" in the verse, not the one translated "shall rise."

One of the meanings of that word is "to raise from the dead" (Thayer's greek english Lexicon).

I am writing the last line , " and the DEAD " in Christ " will rise up first !!

Only those "in Christ " or those in the B O C will rise !!

Both of the translation that I saw are KJV translations !!

first- proton- first of all

So... very simply- the dead in Christ shall be resurrected first before those believers who are still alive on the earth.
