[Feds tell Web firms to turn over user account passwords: Secret demands mark escalation in Internet surveillance by the federal government through gaining access to user passwords, which are typically stored in encrypted form] "The U.S. government has demanded that major Internet companies divulge users' stored passwords, according to two industry sources familiar with these orders, which represent an escalation in surveillance techniques that has not previously been disclosed.

If the government is able to determine a person's password, which is typically stored in encrypted form, the credential could be used to log in to an account to peruse confidential correspondence or even impersonate the user. Obtaining it also would aid in deciphering encrypted devices in situations where passwords are reused..." Just the beginning of what will eventually lead to that:

Revelation 13:16 And he causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: 17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

Is there no such thing as privacy, anymore?

I can see the benefits with catching child porn rings and those who find victims through online chatrooms...but does that mean we all have to be scrutinised like that?

These acts are committed by treasonous thugs, the governed would never give consent for such actions. Some one needs to look at the triangle of the NSA DATA Collection capability, Obama Care, and Common Core Education program. I will just refer to these three as the Evil Triangle of TREASON.

Who was it that said, "We don't need your consent, we have your children."?

I think most or all of us think this sucks, so here's the bottom line: (Note: When I say "You" in this post, I mean it in the general sense, not at any posters in particular)

When you foster a line of thinking that ANYTHING is justified to save lives, you get this.

You cannot have absolute safety and absolute freedom at the same time, as Ron Paul brilliantly points out all the time.

TSF mentioned abortion. This is part of the reason why I refuse to make this my line in the sand, as much as I detest abortion. The way abortion should be dealt with is to make it illegal and to punish those who are caught with execution. Instead, they will make pathetic laws that only protect a few, petty penalties (Always far less than death or even a lengthy prison sentence), and then use that as an excuse for regulation.

Let me be clear. I don't want any regulation of the medical industry. I don't want government having any authority there. I want the unborn to be protected by anti-homicide laws, without regulation of the medical industry.

Now, as for everything else, when you fight a "War on Terrorism", this is what happens. This is why I refuse to glorify the Republican Party with my vote. Because they will support things like this.

Serpentdove, this is one example of an issue as to why I don't emphasize gay marriage. This sort of thing, that actually threatens my freedom, your freedom, and everybody else's freedom, is far more important than preventing a government that is already morally bankrupt from condoning morally bankrupt practices, which is par for the course anyway.

Do you understand it now?

Not a word of it.

I guess aCW is OK with this kind of crap, as long as its "For the right cause" or something.

Seriously, are you so stupid that you can't even bother to actually debate my points?

Come to think of it, I shouldn't ask questions I already know the answer too. I should just make statements:

Seriously, you are so stupid you won't even bother to actually debate my points.

That's better.

I'm curious if SD will try.

@angel- Here's the question:

Are you willing to accept reality that, even with child porn laws, and even with a death penalty for producing it, some people are still going to get away with it?

Or will you (I'm not accusing you of this, but some people think this way) live in the fantasyland that pretends we can actually stop all of it and should do ANYTHING POSSIBLE to prevent it from happening?

The line of thinking above is what leads to everyone being watched and leads to an Orwellian society (If you haven't read 1984, its a must read.)

Uh what? I dont get your point, and since you arent asking or accusing me, then its irrelevant anyway.

At least I found this thread. An oasis in the desert.

The reason I stopped following TOL long ago is not because I thought that many of the arguments were ridiculous (although many are on both sides); it is because, with all the real issues that affect all of us, it seems that many of the urgent current concerns that we should be concerned with are either ignored or hijacked by a relentless droning on about abortion, homosexuality or attacks on "the other side". Fruitless arguments should be confronted; but when confronting them becomes fruitless then the only alternative is to ignore them and find a more reasonable forum for discussion.

With current events like Bradley Manning convicted for blowing the whistle on a multitude of criminal events (and the attacks on freedom of the press, and his torture that came with it), or Edward Snowden (having seen what happened to Manning) going into exile in order to inform us of the criminal activities of the NSA, in collusion with the executive branch and several Congressional leaders, I return here to scan the threads only to find that these important issues (issues that we should be agreeing on and fighting against) are all but absent. Yet those incessant threads on abortion and homosexuality dominate with no resolution in sight.

Have you nothing better to do with your time than waste it squabbling in a fruitless endeavor?

"Two industry sources"?

"Secret", how?

Who's user passwords did they want? How many? Was there a court order for them?

C,mon, people, at least TRY to be a little discerning! Any fool can say anything on the internet. Let's try not to be complete morons and just jump all over anything anyone writes, huh?
