Roy Moore: America Was 'Great' During 'Slavery'

I think you are saying that no matter how great America was in other respects, it cannot be called a great nation if slavery is in its midst?

Do you recognize a difference between a nation that has had slavery since it's founding and a nation that decided it needed to be like the rest of the world and started making slavery legal?

Slavery in America started with the colonies. They brought it with them because it was the way things were done in England. England was an immoral country. The whole world was immoral. Democracy was born in Greece which depended upon slavery to support its way of life. Slavery is a very old institution. I say that it isn't possible that any nation could have been founded in that day without the presence of slavery.

You are refusing to call this nation great during this time because of an institution it didn't start and the people of that era had nothing to do with bringing it here .
Why are you shirking responsibility from the founders who brought slavery to this place? It was their country (well, they took it and claimed it rather) and they could do what they wanted with their constitution. And they chose to continue and double down on the institution of slavery. So no sir, no, they need to take responsibility for it.

The "even though" makes it clear that he wasn't saying slavery was part of the greatness, but it's still pretty bad that he can overlook slavery and say that was the time we were last great. Whatever good we had doesn't wipe out the horrors of slavery.

because slavery was embedded in that time and that time cannot be measured without it.

Read Mary Chestnut, the picture of old plantation life was not pretty, nor very productive.

Roy Moore: America Was 'Great' During 'Slavery'

Its "poetic justice" that even the electorate from one of the most conservative states in America refused to "rubber stamp" a deeply flawed candidate - for the sake of political expediency!

Despite the attempts by Trump, Bannon and the Republican Party to distance themselves from Judge Roy Moore today, they will all own him from the 2018 Interims!

FFree loader, America isn't "less moral and virtuous " today because there are more non-christians in it than ever before . There's probably no more immorality in America than there was in the past . We just have instant lurid publicity which makes it look that way .
I'm quite familiar with US history - probably more than your average American . Your religion doesn't make you moral . Your own decision to be moral does . And not being a Christian doesn't make you wicked and immoral . Many atheists are nicer, kinder and more benevolent people than Christians .

Roy Moore: America Was 'Great' During 'Slavery'

Conservatives, like Judge Roy Moore, yearn for the "good old days" where here were strong family values - the reality is that his period never existed and that many of the Founding Fathers viewed religion with deep suspicion.

Yes, to say times were great when collective man was willing to execute the likes of the "middle passage" and put other humans on an auction block, in chains, because they were too lazy or greedy to hire somebody to pick their cotton? It's like saying Germany was great, even though it was rounding-up Jews.

No people, engaging in the deepest of sins, is great. But is this not also endemic of the likes of the Hollywood culture, the silver screen where acts of lewdness and mayhem are glorified, the more spectacular the violence and vileness, anymore, the better the "entertainment" to many? Yes, even now, we're greater than ever, even though you rue the day your children are old enough to own a computer? The average American, would imagine other "civilized" places in the world, also, watch over 4 hours of TV per day. The number of murders seen on TV by a child, by the time that child finishes elementary school, is around 8,000, the number of violent acts by the time that child is 18 years old around 200,000. All performed by idols people lavish praise upon and are mad over, these pretend people you make stellar, call the "stars". What are you so proud of, in the first place?

1 John 2:16 For all that is in the world --- the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life --- is not of the Father but is of the world.

How many works of the flesh do you think Oscar worthy?

Galatians 5

16 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.
17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.
18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness,
20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies,
21 envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Who was it, just recently, that proclaimed her Lord Satan? Was it Jennifer Lawrence? Hardly anybody says boo. As a matter of fact, let's throw more money at her? Do you not think, know, that she's the tiny tip of a big iceberg? You think Jesus is on the red carpet? Turn on your TV and see how much is of the word of God, what is, in fact, most important in the course of all living human beings, how often you see that name above all names Jesus Christ proclaimed and anything, whatsoever, that is eternal. Rather, is it not 24x7 the world, flesh and the devil, the likes of watching some more murders between commercials telling you what you need to consume? Is any society great, where that name Jesus Christ is primarily used as a curse? You think that even now, because there's no slavery, anything is great?

Keep calling yourself great. "The pride is back!" Keep dreaming you're not, rather, simply piling up the wrath of God, as well as feeding the beast by your very cable or satellite bill, Christian.

2 John 1

10 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:
11 For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.

The recognition that certain rights are given by God, not man or government of man, rights that must not be violated, was a real achievement in human history, to codify this, and this did not occur in a spiritual vacuum. As to the Constitution, James Madison, like Jefferson, whatever else he was, actually did align with Baptists of his day, who, specifically of Rhode Island and Virginia, demanded a Bill of Rights, in order to sign on to the Constitution. You only have a Bill of Rights because of Christians, like the non-establishment clause, as a matter of fact, the faithful not wanting government mucking in religion, at all, as were the abuses of Europe. It is the likes of history class to paint all the Founders as faithful and as if apostles in stature, which you're right, they were not, but to deny good that emanated from Christian thinking that atheists and Satanists benefit from in America is revisionist history, is acting like, well, an atheist or Satanist. Fancy that.

Evil has such inherent hypocrisy. People rail against God and His people, while eating the fruit from His trees, while enjoying His gift of life. "I'll have nothing to do with You! Now, feed me!"
