It mostly depends on where you stand, I reckon. To those who use the arbitrary point of birth as the magical time when a abort-able fetus becomes a protected human being, he probably never was. To me as a Christian, he stood out as something like a hero for his stance on abortion, then his image became tarnished by his personal life.
