:BRAVO:

Praise the Lord!

Who is this who comes from Edom, with dyed garments from Bozrah,
This One who is glorious in His apparel, traveling in the greatness of His strength?
“I who speak in righteousness, mighty to save.”

Isaiah 63:1

:poly:

The Coming One

Who is this that cometh in the starlit glow,
As a newborn infant, to the manger low;
While the shepherds wonder at the wondrous sight,
While the angel chorus wakes the silent night?

Who is this that cometh, this poor Nazarene,
With His timely counsel, with His faultless mien;
With His help and healing for the lame, the blind,
For the poor, the needy, for the burdened mind?

Who is this that cometh, spurning earthly gain,
To the midnight garden, to the cross of pain;
Cometh forth triumphant, from the sealed grave,
Cometh in His beauty, in His might to save?

’Tis the Meek and Lowly, Just and Holy One;
This is He that cometh God’s beloved Son:
’Tis the Meek and Lowly, Just and Holy One;
This is He that cometh God’s beloved Son.

:poly:

Mighty to save.
Isaiah 63:1

The Saving Power

On the earth, long ago, dwelt the Savior of men
As a lowly and meek Nazarene;
And His wonderful pow’r is the same now as then
For He washed me and made me clean.
Oh, the wondrous, marvelous saving power,
Of the everlasting Prince, Savior, King;
For He washed me in the flood of his precious,
Saving blood, and forever His praise I’ll sing.

Praise the Lord!

I have set the LORD always before me;
Because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved.

Psalm 16:8

:poly:

I Have Set the Lord

I set Thy love between the world and me,
O Lord, it cruelty, its wrong, its scorn;
They cannot reach me through Thy tenderness
That once for me their worst has known and borne.

I set Thy cross between my sins and me,
That so their shadow darken not my days,
Nor rob my nights of rest, Thy blood blots out
The long indictment from my shrinking gaze.

I set Thy prayers between my doubts and me,
That so my faith shall fail not, but abide,
Though tried and tested sore; that shield shall serve
All fiery darts to quench or turn aside.

I set Thy strength between my foes and me,
And walk, so guarded, panoplied and girt,
Through dangers seen and unseen, unafraid;
Through flames unscorched and raging waves unhurt.

I set Thy thoughts between my thoughts and me,
The calm, pure visions of Thy holy mind,
Till nothing that disturbs me or defiles,
Into my heart or soul can entrance find.

I set Thy self between my self and me,
And losing mine, Thy life abundant gain;
Take Thy sufficiency for my deep need,
And to Thy perfect stature so attain.

:poly:

The LORD has appeared of old to me, saying:
“Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love;
Therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you.”

Jeremiah 31:3

“My Lord and my God!”
John 20:28

Now I Belong to Jesus

Jesus, my Lord will love me forever,
From Him no pow'r of evil can sever,
He gave His life to ransom my soul;
Now I belong to Him;
Now I belong to Jesus,
Jesus belongs to me,
Not for the years of time alone,
But for eternity.

Praise the Lord!

Sing to Him a new song; play skillfully with a shout of joy.
Psalm 33:3
Oh, sing to the LORD a new song! For He has done marvelous things.
Psalm 98:1
Sing to the LORD a new song, and His praise in the assembly of saints.
Psalm 149:1

:poly:

O the New, New Song

There are songs of joy that I loved to sing,
When my heart was blithe as a bird in spring,
But the song I have learned is so full of cheer,
That the dawn shines out in the darkness drear.

There are strains of home that are dear as life,
And I list to them oft ’mid the din of strife;
But I know of a home that is wondrous fair,
And I sing the psalm they are singing there.

Can my lips be mute, or my heart be sad,
When the gracious Master hath made me glad?
When He points where the many mansions be,
And sweetly says, There is one for thee?

I shall catch the gleam of its jasper wall
When I come to the gloom of the even fall,
For I know that the shadows, dreary and dim,
Have a path of light that will lead to Him.

O the new, new song! O the new, new song!
I can sing it now with the ransomed throng:
Power and dominion to Him that shall reign,
Glory and praise to the Lamb that was slain.

:poly:

O God, my heart is steadfast; I will sing and give praise, even with my glory.
Psalm 108:1
To Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.
1 Peter 5:11

Singing Glory!

I’ve something in my heart that Jesus gave to me,
It makes me feel like singing glory all the day;
He found my captive soul and gave me liberty,
And now I feel like singing glory!
He makes the path grow brighter ev’ry passing day;
He makes the burden lighter all along the way;
His Word is my delight, His will I now obey,
And all the time I’m singing glory!

Praise the Lord!

A pure river of water of life, clear as crystal,
proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.

Revelation 22:1

:poly:

The River of Life

O wonderful river! O life giving river!
That flows thro’ the streets of the city above;
The trees on thy margin, that blossom and quiver,
Bring forth for the nations a fruitage of love.

O throne of the Lamb, with its glory unspoken!
O trees He hath planted for healing and rest!
Shine on in our vision, and give us a token
To comfort the heart that is sore and oppressed.

We pine in the bondage that sin has thrown o’er us,
We long for the joy and the freedom of home
To join in the swell of the glorified chorus,
To drink of the river that flows from the throne.

Wonderful river! Wonderful river!
Gladdening the plains where the ransomed abide:
Flow onward forever, wonderful, wonderful river!
Pure as thy source, which no darkness can hide!

:poly:

The exceeding riches of His grace.
Ephesians 2:7

The River of Thy Grace

The river of Thy grace is flowing free, we launch upon its depths to sail to Thee;
In the ocean of Thy love we soon shall be, we are sailing to eternity.
Earthly joys cannot compare with all the glory, when our longing eyes shall see Thy face;
We shall have Thy fellowship forever, in the splendor of the throne of grace.

Praise the Lord!

For we are sojourners and pilgrims before You, as were all our fathers.
1 Chronicles 29:15
The days of our lives are seventy years; and if by reason of strength they are eighty years, yet their boast is only labor and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away. So teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. Psalm 90:10, 12

:poly:

Time, By Moments, Steals Away

Time, by moments, steals away, first the hour, and then the day;
Small the daily loss appears, yet it soon amounts to years:
Thus another year is flown, now it is no more our own
If it brought or promised good, than the years before the flood.

But may none of us forget it has left us much in debt;
Favors from the Lord received, sins that have His Spirit grieved;
Marked by an unerring hand in His book recorded stand;
Who can tell the vast amount, placed to each of our account?

Happy, the believing soul! Christ for you has paid the whole;
While you own the debt is large, you may plead a full discharge:
But poor careless sinner, say, what can you to justice pay?
Tremble, lest when life is past, into prison you be cast!

Will you still increase the score? Still be careless, as before?
O, forbid it, gracious Lord, touch their spirits by Thy Word!
Now, in mercy, to them show what a mighty debt they owe!
All their unbelief subdue, let them find forgiveness too.

Spared to see another year, let Thy blessing meet us here;
Come, Thy dying work revive, bid Thy drooping garden thrive:
Sun of righteousness arise, warm our hearts, and bless our eyes;
Let our prayer Thy heart move, make the next year a time of love!

:poly:

I am with you always.
Matthew 28:20

Moment by Moment

Dying with Jesus, by death reckoned mine, living with Jesus, a new life divine;
Looking to Jesus till glory doth shine, moment by moment, O Lord, I am Thine.
Moment by moment I’m kept in His love, moment by moment I’ve life from above;
Looking to Jesus till glory doth shine, moment by moment, O Lord, I am Thine.

But You are the same, and Your years will have no end.
Psalm 102:27

:poly:

God of the Changing Year

God of the changing year, whose arm of power
In safety leads through danger’s darkest hour,
Here in Thy temple bow Thy children down,
To bless Thy mercy and Thy might to own.

Thine are the beams that cheer us on our way,
And pour around the gladdening light of day;
Thine is the night, and the fair orbs that shine
To cheer its hours of darkness; all are Thine.

If round our path the thorns of sorrow grew,
And mortal friends were faithless, Thou wast true;
Did sickness shake the frame, or anguish tear
The wounded spirit, Thou was present there.

O lend Thine ear, and lift our voice to Thee;
Where’er we dwell, still let Thy mercy be;
From year to year still nearer to Thy shrine
Draw our frail hearts, and make them wholly Thine.

New Year 2015

New Year’s Hymn

Join your voices, rejoicing voices, new Year hymns again to sing;
For our new and many mercies, Lord, our heartfelt praise we bring.
Summer flowers have bloomed and faded, summer hours have come and fled;
By Thy care we still are aided, by Thy hand we still are fed.

Thou hast kept us, God of glory, since the last New Year began;
Still proclaiming the sweet story, of Thy wondrous love to man.
Shall we longer keep Him waiting, who for us hath waited long?
He to whom both soul and body, heart and life, and all belong?

From this moment, Holy Jesus, may our hearts be wholly Thine!
Then we’ll sing that best of praises, “I am His, and He is mine.”
Jesus! by Thy blood and Spirit, may we all Thy children be,
Then in Thee we shall inherit happiness eternally.

Lord of glory! we adore Thee now before Thee in another year;
May Thy heav’nly love abiding, be on every believer here.

The LORD bless thee, and keep thee: The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:
The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.

For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways, says the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts. Isaiah 55:8-9

:poly:

Better Than My Best

I prayed for strength, and then I lost awhile
All sense of nearness, human and divine;
The love I leaned on failed and pierced my heart,
The hands I clung to loosed themselves from mine;
But while I swayed, weak trembling, and alone,
The everlasting arms upheld my own.

I prayed for light; the sun went down in clouds,
The moon was darkened by a misty doubt,
The stars of heaven were dimmed by earthly fears,
And all my little candle flames burned out;
But while I sat in shadow, wrapped in night,
The face of Christ made all the darkness bright.

I prayed for peace, and dreamed of restful ease,
A slumber free from pain, a hushed repose;
Above my head the skies were black with storm,
And fiercer grew the onslaught of my foes;
But while the battle raged, and wild winds blew,
I heard His voice and perfect peace I knew.

I thank you, Lord, You were too wise to heed
My feeble prayers, and answer as I sought,
Since these rich gifts Your bounty has bestowed
Have brought me more than all I asked or thought;
Giver of good, so answer each request
With your own giving, better than my best.

:poly:

What shall I render to the LORD for all His benefits toward me?
Psalm 116:12

Give of Your Best to the Master

Give of your best to the Master; give of the strength of your youth.
Throw your soul’s fresh, glowing ardor into the battle for truth.
Jesus has set the example, dauntless was He, young and brave.
Give Him your loyal devotion; give Him the best that you have.
Give of your best to the Master; naught else is worthy His love.
He gave Himself for your ransom, gave up His glory above.
Laid down His life without murmur, you from sin’s ruin to save.
Give Him your heart’s adoration; give Him the best that you have.

What Wilt Thou Have Me To Do?

Lord, Thou hast granted salvation to me,
What wilt Thou have me to do?
From Satan’s bondage at last I am free,
What wilt Thou have me to do?

Since I am saved by the Crucified One,
What wilt Thou have me to do?
I would point others to God’s only Son,
What wilt Thou have me to do?

Pardon is granted thro’ Him who hath died,
What wilt Thou have me to do?
I am so happy with Thee at my side,
What wilt Thou have me to do?

Ready and willing Thy voice to obey,
What wilt Thou have me to do?
Bid me to follow Thee day unto day,
What wilt Thou have me to do?

What wilt Thou have me to do?
Where wilt Thou have me to go?
Jesus, my Master, Thy will shall be mine,
What wilt Thou have me to do?

There is work that we can do, while the years are rolling by.

Sunday Morning Praise

I Do Not Ask, O Lord

I do not ask, O Lord, that life may be a pleasant road;
I do not ask that Thou wouldst take from me aught of its load.
I do not ask that flowers should always spring beneath my feet;
I know too well the poison and the sting of things too sweet.

For one thing, only Lord, dear Lord, I plead: lead me aright,
Though strength should falter and heart should bleed, through peace to light.
I do not ask, O Lord, that Thou shouldst shed full radiance here
Give but a ray of peace, that I may tread without a fear.

I do not ask my cross to understand, my way to see,
Better in darkness just to feel Thy hand, and follow Thee.
Joy is like restless day; but peace divine like quiet night,
Lead me, O Lord, till perfect day shall shine, through peace to light.

You shall hide them in the secret place of Your presence.
Psalm 31:20
He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High
Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

Psalm 91:1

In the Secret Place of God

He that dwelleth in the secret place of God, Most High,
When the days of biting bitterness and travail draweth nigh,
With the crimsoned lintel over and the sheltering solace sure,
Doth abide beneath the shadow of Omnipotence, secure.
Art thou dwelling in this hiding, underneath the sprinkled blood?
Is thy soul, by grace abiding “In the secret place of God?”
There is fullness there, and sweetness, all thy pow’rs find full employ,
Gladness, comforting, completeness, peace, and everlasting joy.

It Is Mine

God’s abiding peace is in my soul today,
Yes, I feel it now, yes I feel it now;
He has taken all my doubts and fears away,
Tho’ I cannot tell you how.

He has wrought in me a sweet and perfect rest,
In my raptured heart I can feel it now;
He each passing moment keeps me saved and blest,
Floods with light my heart and brow.

He has given me a never failing joy,
Oh, I have it now! oh, I have it now!
To His praise I will my ransomed pow’rs employ,
And renew my grateful vow.

Oh, the love of God is comforting my soul,
For His love is mine, yes, His love is mine!
Waves of joy and gladness o’er my spirit roll,
Thrilling me with life divine.

It is mine, mine, blessed be His name!
He has given peace, perfect peace to me;
It is mine, mine, ever blessed be His name!
Mine for all eternity!

Matthew 28:20

Constantly Abiding

There’s a peace in my heart that the world never gave,
A peace it cannot take away;
Though the trials of life may surround like a cloud,
I’ve a peace that has come here to stay!
Constantly abiding, Jesus is mine;
Constantly abiding, rapture divine;
He never leaves me lonely, whispers, O so kind:
I will never leave thee, Jesus is mine.

Behold, a king will reign in righteousness, and princes will rule with justice.
A man will be as a hiding place from the wind, and a cover from the tempest,
As rivers of water in a dry place, as the shadow of a great rock in a weary land.

Isaiah 32:1-2

You are my hiding place;
You shall preserve me from trouble;
You shall surround me with songs of deliverance.

Psalm 32:7

:poly:

The Hiding Place

Have you ever wished, deep down inside
That you could find a place to hide?
To hide from folks who come your way
With endless problems day by day?
To hide from all that lies ahead,
The unseen foes and griefs you dread?
To flee decisions you must make,
Avoid the path that you must take?
To run away and find a spot
Where even self can be forgot?

Earth has no place as such you seek
No place of refuge for the weak;
For ev'ry shelter here on earth
Soon proves to be of little worth
And we are left alone to face
The woes that plague the human race.

BUT WAIT!! The Rock of Ages He still stands,
A refuge from all life's demands;
A place to hide to weep to rest;
A place to hover and be blest.

For Jesus is that Rock Who stands
Holding forth His nail pierced hands
A covert from the storm is He,
Saying, “Come, and hide in Me.”

:poly:

For You have been…a refuge from the storm.
Isaiah 25:4

A Shelter in the Time of Storm

The Lord’s our Rock, in him we hide,a shelter in the time of storm;
Secure whatever ill betide, a shelter in the time of storm.
Oh, Jesus is a Rock in a weary land, a weary land, a weary land...
Jesus is a Rock in a weary land, a shelter in the time of storm.

Praise the Lord!

Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm.
Matthew 8:26-27

:poly:

Jesus, Savior, Pilot Me

Jesus, Savior, pilot me over life’s tempestuous sea;
Unknown waves before me roll, hiding rock and treacherous shoal.
Chart and compass come from Thee; Jesus, Savior, pilot me.

Though the sea be smooth and bright, sparkling with the stars of night,
And my ship’s path be ablaze with the light of halcyon days,
Still I know my need of Thee; Jesus, Savior, pilot me.

When the darkling heavens frown, and the wrathful winds come down,
And the fierce waves, tossed on high, lash themselves against the sky,
Jesus, Savior, pilot me, over life’s tempestuous sea.

As a mother stills her child, Thou canst hush the ocean wild;
Boisterous waves obey Thy will, when Thou sayest to them, “Be still!”
Wondrous sovereign of the sea, Jesus, Savior, pilot me.

When at last I near the shore, and the fearful breakers roar
’Twixt me and the peaceful rest, then, while leaning on Thy breast,
May I hear Thee say to me, “Fear not, I will pilot thee.”

Matthew 14:23

I Love to Steal Awhile Away

I love to steal awhile away
From every cumbering care,
And spend the hours of closing day
In humble, grateful, prayer.

I love in solitude to shed
The repentful tear,
And all His promises to plead
Where none but God can hear.

I love to think on mercies past,
And future good implore,
And all my cares and sorrows cast
On God, whom I adore.

I love by faith to take a view
Of brighter scenes in heaven;
The prospect doth my strength renew,
While here by tempests driven.

Thus, when life’s toilsome day is o’er,
May its departing ray,
Be calm at this impressive hour,
And lead to endless day.

Christ In His Heavenly Garden

“Christ in His heavenly garden walks all day,
And calls to souls upon the world’s highway;
Wearied with trifles, maimed and sick with sin,
Christ by the gate stands, and invites them in.

“How long, unwise, will ye pursue your woe?
Here from the throne sweet waters ever go:
Here the white lilies shine like stars above:
Here in the red rose burns the face of love.

“ ’Tis not from earthly paths I bid you flee,
But lighter in My ways your feet will be:
’Tis not to summon you from human mirth,
But add a depth and sweetness not of earth.

“Still by the gate I stand as on ye stray:
Turn your steps hither: am not I the Way?
The sun is falling fast; the night is nigh:
Why will ye wander? Wherefore will ye die?

“Look on My hands and side, for I am He:
None to the Father cometh, but by Me:
For you I died; once more I call you home:
I live again for you: My children, come!”

I With Thee Would Begin

I with Thee would begin, O my Savior so dear,
On the way that I still must pursue;
I with Thee would begin every day granted here,
As my earnest resolve I renew
To be and remain Thine forever.

I with Thee would begin and go forth in Thy name,
Which alone doth salvation bestow;
Fold me close to Thy breast where found joy all who came,
There is refuge for me, too, I know,
Though all in this world is confusion.

Let Thy Word all divine be my lamp in whose light
I may constantly keep to Thy way;
And each day wouldst Thou cleanse me anew, make me white
In the blood shed for me on that day
The cross Thou didst suffer, Lord Jesus.

I with Thee would begin — yea, and hear one more prayer,
I would close with Thee, too, my brief day,
And when daylight has failed, let me sleep in Thy care,
Until waking Thy child Thou dost say,
“Come, live with Me ever in Heaven.”

As he left it unwearied, shall find it unworn.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil;
For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

Psalm 23:4

For Thou Art With Me

I know not when I go, nor where,
From this familiar scene;
But Christ is here and He is there
And all the way between;
And, when I pass from all I know
To that dim, vast unknown,
Though late I stay, or soon I go,
I shall not go alone.

Praise the Lord!

He said to them,
When I sent you without money bag, knapsack, and sandals, did you lack anything?”
So they said, “Nothing.”

Luke 22:35
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things.
Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

Matthew 6:34

Step by Step

When the shadows thickly gather,
Clouding all thy onward way,
Think not what shall be tomorrow;
Seek God’s help just for today.

Should the coming days bring burdens,
Or be fraught with grief or care,
Trust Him in the hour of trial,
He will make thee strong to bear.

Daily strength He ever giveth,
For each day rich grace bestows;
And each morrow, as it dawneth,
Still His lovingkindness shows.

Then why should we shrink or falter
When the onward path looks dim,
Knowing light will never fail us
While we walk by faith with Him?

Step by step He leads me onward,
Step by step the way reveals;
But what in the future lieth,
In His mercy He conceals.

Lord, I will follow You.
Luke 9:61

I will follow Thee

I will follow Thee, my Savior, wheresoe’er my lot may be.
Where Thou goest I will follow, yes, my Lord, I’ll follow Thee.
I will follow Thee, my Savior, Thou didst shed Thy blood for me;
And though all men should forsake me, by Thy grace I’ll follow Thee.

Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing.

Sunday Morning Praise

Hear Us, O Lord

Hear us, O Lord, from Heaven Thy dwelling place:
Like them of old, in vain we toil all the day and night,
Unless with us Thou go, who art the Light,
Come then, O Lord, that we may see Thy face.
Thou, Lord, doest rule the raging of the sea,
When loud the storm and furious is the gale:
Strong is Thine arm; our little barques are frail:
Send us Thy help; remember Galilee.

Our wives and children we commend to Thee:
For them we plough the land and plough the deep;
For them by day the golden corn we reap,
By night the silver harvest of the sea.
We thank Thee, Lord, for sunshine, dew and rain,
Broadcast from heaven by Thine almighty hand —
Source of all life, unnumbered as the sand —
Bird, beast, and fish, herb, fruit and golden grain.

O Bread of Life, Thou in Thy Word hast said,
Who feeds in faith on Me shall never die!
In mercy hear Thy hungry children’s cry —
Father, give us this day our daily bread!
Sow in our hearts the seeds of Thy dear love,
That we may reap contentment, joy, and peace;
And when at last our earthly labors cease,
Grant us to join Thy harvest home above.
